I have told Mandy that I'm unwilling to get into a serious romantic relationship.

She appears deeply upset with me at times. More recently she seems to accept my current stance, but the disappointment lingers.

I've tried to explain to her that I feel I would definitely cause deeper and more intense damage by making a commitment to her at this time

I've communicated this equation to both of them and they don't like that idea and neither do I.

Being that I know everything about relationships (uh, not really), this ones up to you. You are the "plus sign" in this equation...the two "numbers" involved have no value to each other unless you are placed in the middle of them.

Sooo, you can't have both, you can't have neither (if I understand your thinking), and you don't want one over the other?

Ever considered an open relationship?

Eh, I don't think you are the bad guy, and I'm probably one of Mandy's most biased friends. Just ask her, she'll tell you how unforgiving I can be of people who I think have hurt my friends unnecessarily, or who I don't think are good for them
