Heart Attack?

[He was] admitted with chest pain and had increased cardiac enzymes which usually means heart attack. He had a arteriogram(cardiac cath) which was apparently normal. He's on Lopressor. I don't really trust that stuff.

Hrmm. That's not the medication I thought it would be. I'll have to look into that one some more. That's one of the ones where you have to watch the effects on the heart/heart rate AND the blood pressure.

They prescribed him aspirin, too, which I also think is a bit unnecessary. He didn't have a heart attack! There was absolutely no blockage. His cholesterol is low. Etc. He's actually at a low 10-year risk for heart disease (per whatever assessment is in my dietetic tool box whose name I can't recall on a sleepy Friday morning)--not that he's risk-factor free. On the other hand, I don't suppose a little aspirin hurt anyone--aside from the risks that taking aspirin takes. ;-)

Okay, nevermind me. I just don't trust Lopressor, that's all, and I wouldn't take it unless it was absolutely necessary (I was almost prescribed a beta-blocker once myself). But that's just me and my weirdness.
