So You Think You Can Dance - Season I don't remember what cause I caught this by accident - Week One

Jun 10, 2009 20:12

Welcome to the first live blog of the Season. Not much to say about the opening number because I missed it cause I forgot the show was on tonight for various reasons. In fact, the only reason I have time to blog this is because I'm off from work tomorrow but more on that another time.

1. Jeane and Phillip doing a Hip Hop routine choreographed by Tabitha and Napoleon to Mad by Ne Yo - So we have a trained girl with lovely curves and street dancer. The couple are partnering well, but the girl is a little too soft on her movements. Over all I like the piece, I'm not blown away, but I'm not disappointed in it. Adam, the judge I love, agrees with me. Mary's already screaming. Nigel liked it.

2. Asuka and Vitolio doing a Broadway routine choreographed by Tyce to Hot Honey Rag from Chicago - Crap, this style for the first number can be the kiss of death. The moves and the couple don't have the glitz and energy this number needs. However, I like the couple. I'd like to see them again, but, yeah, this piece is not something they're owning. Sad really. It's a price for bigger personalities. And Judge I Love agreed with me. Mary was disappointed and wanted it to be more energetic too. Nigel liked the mechanics, but the performance wasn't up to par.

3. Karla and Johnathan doing a Cha-Cha routine choreographed by Tony Meredith to Poker Face by Lady Gaga - a girl who traveled with Wicked, dancing with a Salsa fellow who started dancing because of season one. I'm not crazy about strobe lights. I don't think the girl is as good as the guy in this number but they have both have personality, and are selling the dance pretty well. I'm' not digging all the black and white costumes on everyone either, but feh. Adam liked it, yay! Mary liked it. Nigel's right, Jonathan doing the splits was pretty cool.

4. Randi and Evan doing a contemporary? routine choreographed by Tyce to I Only Have Eyes For You by Jamie Cullum - A country girl paired with a Broadway dancer. It's a hot piece and they're quite good. I don't normally like contemporary, but I'll buy this one. Adam loved them and their dancing too. They're like the Gev and Courtney of last season in hieght but with more professionalism and life. Mary is saying god knows what, she's so the Paula of this competition. She just screamed in Nigel's ear. Nice. Nigel gave them a good send up. And, Cat's just said she'd like to put them in her pocket and carry them off. Speaking of Cat, it seems like she's doing even better hosting this year than last and I'm pleased to see that.

5. Paris and Tony doing another Hip Hop routine choreographed by Tabitha and Napoleon to Let Te Beat Rock Remix by the Black Eyed Peas - I like their costumes and the opening . Nothing has really got me in this number, but I do like their partnering and that while they had props, pairs of headphones, they made sense and didn't take away from the piece. Adam is right, this was a little softer than it should have been in a beat heavy song. Mary is also right, it wasn't memorable, but it was good.

6. Caitlin and Jason doing a Bollywood routine choreographed by Nacool? to Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire - I've been waiting for this number since Will and Kate's number last year and I want to be blown away by them. I'm afraid I won't be. Let's see. Their timing is off and the costumes are horrific. We should never spend so much time looking at a dancer's hooha on this show because of poor costuming. Caitlin's bodyflight was too clunky for the speed of a piece like this. Jason hit it perfectly. I really wish they would get good bollywood number costumes. I said the same thing last year. Adam loved it but I can't agree. Mary liked it. Nigel said this is the same choreographer as did the piece last year, so maybe the choreographers pick the costumes? I don't know.

7. Janette and Branden doing a Foxtrot routine choreographed by Louis Van Etsel? to Cone Fly with me by Michael Bubble - I like Braden and I don't care that Banoodles doesn't like him. Her dress is lovely. Their personalities are making up for some shoddy lines for me. I'm sure Mary will rip them a new one but I don't care. They're adorable. I want to see more from them. They end with a lovely lift. Adam feels the same way I do, yay! Mary says she can't give her verdict with a raised eye brow because of Botox. Mary loved them! YAY! Nigel complimented Janette on her carriage, and suggested working on footwork for Branden.

8. Ashley and Kupono doing a Jazz routine choreographed by Wade Robson to Felt Mountain by Goldfrapp - I can't do the symbol over the u in his name right now, so please pretend it's there. HAHAHA I love Wade. The characters are CRASH TEST DUMBIES! I LOVE THE IDEA. I hope they own. I LOVE THIS! I love the dog! I can't even talk, I love this so much! This is just... SICK! OMG, SO MUCH TO LOVE! Adam, doesn't seem to be a fan, awe woe. He's right though, it was hard to focus on strictly the dance and dancing, however he agrees with me and said Wade was one sick puppy. Mary really liked it! :D YAY! HEE! Mary put the test crash puppy on the hot tamale train! YAY! Nigel called Wade a genius!

9. Melissa and Ade (pronounced A-Day) doing a Contemporary routine choreographed by Mandy Moore to Right Here Waiting by Richard Marx - I keep waiting for a piece by Banoodles cause I know she's lurking out there like a bad lunch from the school cafeteria. I'm thinking this may be it. Oh thank god it's not Banoodles, but instead Mandy Moore. It's a piece about first love and school. Lame song choice Mandy. Gorgeous dancing. The lifts are clean and fluid. The girl isn't' as loose as the piece needs, but she's almost right there enough that she'll pass. Adam says it's... SPECIAL and is close to tears. I love Adam. He's my super star judge. Mary screams before speaking, that bodes well. Mary called Ade a superstar and praised Melissa's ballet training. Nigel says they've proved what a fantastic top twenty they have this year. I think Nigel is setting them up for continuing on further in the show.

10. Kayla and Max doing a Samba routine choreographed by Louis Van Etsel? to Jum Bah Day by House of Gypsies - This might be the best ballroom dance we've ever seen, and I hope it will be. I like this, it had the energy that the piece needs and we finally have a guy that really gets it. She's a little raw but not bad at all. Best of all, her dress while being just right for the style, did not give me flashbacks to Anya's bad taste costumes. Love it just for that! Adam loves it as much as I did! Mary's shouting for an Amen and has now stood up and is shouting about the Hot Tamale Train. We knew that was coming sometime tonight. Nigel called it sensational. I love Nigel too, always. However, he said Max was not as sharp as Pasha and Dimitry. I can't comment on Dimitri, because I didn't see him. I can speak to Pasha. I loved Pasha, but Max has way more personality than even dear, fun Pasha.
