So You Think You Can Dance - Season Five - Episode Six

Jul 15, 2009 22:38

Tonight's Guest Judge is: Debbie Allen

Cat's dress looks like she's wearing something by Chloe Doa, or a knock off of Doa.

Tonight's entry is going to be a little sloppy because I'm not sure how I want to format it and as such, I missed some vital stats.

We start the night with a bollywood routine by the top five girls. It made me think, for a brief, of the five little angels piece Mia Michaels choreographed. This piece was the exact opposite. Where the angel piece was soft, gentle, and muted, this piece was engeritic, sassy, and vibriant. This is the kind of piece you want to see on tour. I know I butchered the choreographer's name but I think it was Nakul Nan Kajhul, and if I remember correctly, we saw him earlier this year too. The music was Dholna from the Pyar Ke Geet sound track. Awesome costumes. Kayla looks like a selfish dancer in this. She was in other dancer's space a lot. I know you can get caught sometimes, especially in fast pieces, but dude, work it out. Also, these are the best Bollywood costumes I've ever seen on this program. And now Nigel said they were on his "hot bangers and mash plate". Cat shooker head and said it only took him five years to come up with that one. Mary really liked and loves the girls.

Kayla and Evan - Viennese waltz - kiss form a rose by Seal - What I saw was gorgeous but I missed a lot for various reasons. I loved her dress and non-shoes. Evan was adorable but challenged.

Dancer O1 - Brandon - In Your Eyes Jeffrey Gaines - I'm not fond of the solos, ever. So it seems that Brandon's genre is contemporary? It was nice, but not memorable.

Janette and Ade - Hee! They used the famous Ade hair pic, and Janette's inner accountant. Love Sex and Magic - I don't like the costumes but it's lovely.

Dancer 02 - Randi - solo to Dream by Priscilla Ann pretty, not my thing

To vote for Dancer 2 call 1-888-TEMPO-02 or 1-888-836-7602.

Dancer 03 - Kupono - missed the solo, didn't miss the wackadoodle outfit, wish I had.

Jason and Janelle. How gorgeous are they and how perfect is this piece for a new couple just ripped from their original partnership.? I'm not fond of the kiss or the mouth work on the necklace. I didn't catch the the song or artist but the choreographer was by Travis from S2. What kind of powerhouse is that wee Janette? A BIG ONE! Jason was lovely too. They got a standing ovation from everyone including the judges. Nigel loved it. Mary was speechless, then she cried. Travis is wearing a woman's diamond necklace. I'm not sure that it entirely works, but it's almost there.

Dancer 04 - Melissa - I love Melissa's non traditional solo costume. The solo was lovely.

Dancer 05 is Evan, his style is Broadway? He's got personality that we rarely see.

To vote for Dancer 5 call 1-888-TEMPO-05 or 1-888-836-7605.

Dancer 06 - Kayla - I don't like her outfit, then again I don't like her so maybe I'm a crankpot. I also find her song very very annoying.

Randi and Kupono are together tonight and he'd like to put her in his pocket. Passe Dobble - I can't spell it. This dance always reminds me of Strictly Ballroom. I compare every version of this I see to Scott and Fran. I'm sure there are better, but I love them. Her wig is ridiculous. And she doesn't look so much like a cape as a pirate. Nice death spiral, but they came out poorly. They do not own this. The choreography is more than they can handle and as such, this piece was way, way, way too long. Nigel agreed with me. Mary does too. Scott and Fran would have wipes the floor with them.

Dancer 07 - Ade - that's an interesting change on unchained melody. HOLY COW! What a flip! Nigel really is going to start wearing a hair pick now.

To vote for Dancer 7 call 1-888-TEMPO-07 or 1-888-836-7607.

Dancer 08 - Jeanine - she has a really good idea of what a memorable solo needs. This is who they should have cast in Center Stage Two. Dancer 8.

To vote for Dancer 8 call 1-888-TEMPO-08 or 1-888-836-7608.

Dancer 09 - Jason - He picked a Muddy Waters' song! How flipping awesome is that?!?! SO MUCH!. Not super powerful but not bad at all.

To vote for Dancer 9 call 1-888-TEMPO-09 or 1-888-836-7609.

Melissa and Brandon - they also have tiny hieght problem. Oh crap. They have Tyce and boardway, piece from Hair. Tyce was saying this was from the seventies. No, Tyce, I know you're odd, but it's about the MOTHER FUCKING SIXITIES YOU IDIOT! How? I mean, no, just, HOW? Aquariu, Great costumes. Some of it is a little too pop and lock, bu the dancers aren't to be faulted for Tyce being thoughtless. I don't like this rendering of the song. Like, at all. However, I have nothing bad to say about Melissa and Brandon. I loved them. Nigel loved the dancers, and called out Tyce on the 60s/70s slip. Mary is very excited about the piece. I thought, as a piece, it was mellow and ok, but not a piece for this level of the competetion. Debbie praised their partnering and showmanship.

Dancer 10 - Jeanette - I like her solo and music. I should have found her music just as annoying as I did Kayla's, but no, I didn't.

To vote for Dancer 10 call 1-888-TEMPO-10 or 1-888-836-7610.

Last piece will be the top five guys doing African Dance. What wackjob put wee pasty Evan in the middle of the floor for an African dance piece? That's just not right.

So who are you voting for? I'm not voting for two, three, five, or six. It's open for the rest of them.
