So, had my serpentine belt replaced over the weekend. I spent $35 at Checkers for a new, higher grade belt, and had the van towed to Denny's Auto. Total cost of tow and service repair charge: $120. Total spent on repair: $155 ( Read more... )

Wait. They replaced it, it snapped again, and now they're unwilling to replace it? Especially given that, when replacing it, they should've seen what else might've been wrong and causing it to snap?

fuck that. they either over-tightened the pulley, or didn't ease it up enough. call them and TELL them that they're

1) towing it

2) buying a new belt

3) paying for someone else to put it on

That engine has a tensioner pulley-- you can't overtighten it.

then the pulley arm is probably bent... at any rate, there's something effing the works up, and they should have fixed it.

My guess would be a siezed pulley, which looks completely normal until it siezes up. Happened to my 'Sploder.

They probably should have looked for something, yes. Due diligence and all that. I doubt that you could get them to pay for anything though, just steer people away from their shop.

Ford engine. That old, likely a bearing siezed on one of the things that the serpentine belt runs (alternator, air pump, AC compressor, power steering, brakes, idler and tensioner).

Where is your van now?

(I'm tied up tonight, but I might be able to look at it tomorrow night except it's gonna be ass-cold and raining/snowing).

You've got to be kidding me! Fucking hell honey!
This sucks and if I was with you right now I would give you the biggest hug ever! cause heaven forbid you need it!
Those assholes should have kept the packaging... It should be company policy! And they should fix it again for free because that's bullshit! I'm guessing it wasn't on right or was loose and that caused it to go again.
