Dinner was fun. I'm glad that we got to spend some time geeking out about a bunch of stuff. And I'm glad that the van runs again. Hopefully this will keep it running for a while.
Does the squeaking happen at just highway speeds, or does it happen when the engine is idle and warm? Does it happen when you turn the wheel, or all the time? Does the steering seem hard or jerky when you're moving at slow speeds?
FYI: power steering pumps are usually pretty robust. I didn't notice anything in hand-turning yours that would make me suspect that it was about to go bad, but it's possible. Most likely you've got some time left on it, months if not years. Then again, I'm not a professional.
Something to check is the fluid level. If it's low, it's probably a good idea to top it off and keep an eye on it in case it's leaking. Have somebody turn the wheel back and forth and look at the fluid to see if there's any metallic residue or if the fluid is exceptionally dirty; if there is, drain the fluid and replace it.
If you end up having to replace the pump, a rebuilt one will probably run you $150 or so with the reservoir and filter.
I'm having Denny's Auto check everything over, and top off all my fluids. I'm gonna drop it off today and pick it up tomorrow, unless they find anything "devistating."
I've always taken my car to Amigo / Shell service center on Lyndale and 36th(?). they've always been very good to me and I've been happy with their work. They've done a full brake job, replaced the EGR Valve, and replaced my alternator belt for me.

If I end up bringing my van into another garage, it isn't leaving until it get's a full, warrentied tune-up.
