So, I read that John Mayer is coming out with a blues recording. Apparently, he is teaming up with two 'famous' session players and will be recording a full length which will demonstrate his working knowledge of the blues. Before the rant starts, let me say that I don't really have a huge problem with Mayer. Mrs. Musicheals really digs him, I ( Read more... )

And before I am accused, this is not a black/white, rich/poor musician thing. White people do have 'soul', no question.

this gave me an instant flashback of that guilty-white-dude from your class a year or so ago...

I don't think you're a blues snob, but you're definitely a music snob.

Hey, if you haven't listened to R.L. Burnside or T-Model Ford, get you some and listen to it. Hill Country blues from north Mississippi. First time I heard it, I almost peed myself. It's that good.

On a side note, R.L. Burnside passed away last week. I was holed up in a hotel in Galveston mourning the loss of my beloved city and saw the news on the CNN ticker. Man, I felt like I was kicked when I was down. And I made the mistake of leaving my CD in my apartment. :(

I've explored some of RL's stuff and have liked what I've heard.

On another side note, I am really relieved that you're safe and have been praying that you can get back home and back on track as soon as possible. I can't imagine what you'd been having to deal with, I just can't and won't pretend to.

I dunno, if anything, it made me respect him more that he wanted to explore something that he has an interest in. Most people who would go see John Mayer don't know shit about music anyway, so if they pick up his disc and think they're a blues fan, that's much more their problem than it is his.

I saw a local blues act that I liked a lot recently, but I don't know anything about that genre, and for all I know they were another Blues Hammer!
