[Recorder clicks on and for a minute there is silence. Then a soft, boyish voice comes over]

As promised, Maiden Cassis.

[Device is heard being set down. Then piano music is heard playing. The song, while very beautiful and well-played, is quite sad and sounds almost heartbreaking. After a few minutes of playing, the piano stops]It appears...I ( Read more... )

Maiden Cassis asked me about my music. I promised to write a song for her. But...like all my music, it did not turn out.

Did you listen to it...? It isn't music when it sounds like that.

Ya know, classical music isn't really my bag.

But even if she didn't like it, I thought it was cathartic.

You think so? Then I am glad it pleased you. This is the only sort of music I can play.

It's pretty...and sad. But these days, I don't mind sad so much.

Is that so? Sadness is a common emotion.

That was...quite sad.

Are you sad?

Sad...? I possibly am. I wanted to write something for the Maiden Cassis. I was unable to write anything of true music. Yet people here seem to appreciate it...I've never had people appreciate my music before.

It sounds like real music. Music is a way to show your feelings and convey them to others. It's a sad song, but it is true music.

Is it perhaps you cannot write happy music?

Maybe. But then if I cannot play anything except sad music, I cannot convey all emotions. And then...if music is the spectrum of emotions, I cannot play music.

That music was very good. Sad, though. It almost makes me miss my violin.

Violin? I requested one. I like violins too.

Yes, I used to play. I had to give it up, though... I never had time to pursue it. Maybe I'll pick it up again.

You should. There is time in this place. I would enjoy hearing your music.

It was beautiful, but it... was so sad...

...Did it displease you, Maiden Cassis?

Displease me...? N-No! Not at all! It was just... Why was it so sad?

Then you liked it, Maiden Cassis...?

My creator told me...that because of what I am, I cannot play music. Nothing I create is music. It all sounds like this.
