My otherwise very strict parents pretty much told me they couldn't stop me from smoking (cigarettes) but I wasn't to do it anywhere near their house. Granted, this led to a 15-year habit, but I probably wouldn't have stopped anyway.

I'm terrified about trying to keep my son from using drugs when he's older, though. I don't even have a real issue with drug use, if it's responsible--but I don't believe in it for young teens.

I didn't have to worry about that. My grandfather let me drink a beer when I was young. I still don't like the taste of beer to this day. And I remember sneaking out and smoking in the backyard. I don't like cigarettes either now.

And I'm very much the same. I understand that for some, it's what they do. I just think that teens should wait until later before they go and do stuff without parental input/guidance. Plus add to the mix that my daughter is a very pretty young woman and it's even worse!!!
