This was truly beautiful. You definitely set the stage here and this very well could have been canon in my opinion. Great look inside Don's mind for this moment in his career, which was quite a poignant one at that. Well done!!!

(One small typo: "his thoughts before its took late to go back" should be "his thoughts before it's too late to go back.)
