the bad things about being a teacher

Last month one of my students was shot in the back by her sisters boyfriend. My students mother worked at the school in the cafeteria. The student is expected to make a complete recovery. HEr mother still has 2 of the 4 bullets lodged in her back and will be paralyzed from the waist down for life

Its very hard. Ive had students hurt before and lost one in a car accident. But this is the first one that has gone in this way.
Its wierd, I was talking to another teacher today, and I told her that I could just picture 'Cricket' (his nickname) in his seat in my room, smiling and laughing. She said that she had the same experience.

I also keep all of the reference letters that I write for students so that I have backup if I ever need to rememeber what I said. I pulled out the letters that I wrote for him today. It made me cry, he had such potential.
