CHARACTER
Name:Roderich Edelstein
Age:21
Canon:Axis Powers Hetalia
History:
Here Personality: Roderich is quiet and reserved, preferring to spend most of his time not directly involved in the "family business." He still thinks of himself as a musician instead of a mafioso, and resents being reminded of who his employers are. Given a chance that would not result in his death, it is highly likely that he would leave the family, but so far his fear of what they could do to him if he tried to leave outweighs his desire for freedom.
He is almost always unfailingly polite and proper, and though he has been known to lose his temper, he has a very long fuse and the worst you can generally expect is a scathing insult, or to get yelled at if you really managed to piss him off. His family always expected him to be quiet and polite, and these are traits that being in the mafia has definitely not erased. If anything they have been more pronounced than they might have been otherwise as he uses them to differentiate himself from those around him.
Roderich has some trouble expressing his emotions, which in part explains why he is always so polite and serious. The best way that he knows to express his emotions is through music, it helps him relax and when he feels that he can't express himself through his words, he often uses music as a means to express that. He gets embarrassed easily, preferring people to behave in a polite and proper fashion, and he has a very low tolerance for rude behavior.
Roderich appreciates the finer things in life, classical music, art, opera and ballet. He plays the piano and violin, and one of his prized possessions is the violin he had when he was fifteen, which he plays every day. He likes sweets, particularly cakes and chocolates, and having recently discovered mocha he might be developing something of an addiction to them. While he does appreciate fine things, he can be remarkably thrifty with his money. He is quite skilled at sewing, using it to fix his clothing if it gets a small hole or tear or happens to lose a button. He can be quite bound up in appearances, and often goes to great lengths to make sure that the image he presents to the world is precisely the one he wishes to.
Despite living in Palermo for the last six years, he tends to get lost very easily once he is outside of the area he is familiar with. This can get him into trouble since he is not a violent or confrontational person. He despises violence, and despises the powers given to him by the perforare even more. He will only use violence under extreme duress, and his perforare are used only when he is directly ordered to. Even then he will protest.
IN GAME
Brief In-Game History: The Edelsteins are a family of much prestige and age in Austria, but not as much money as they used to have. Roderich grew up in a house full of reminders of what the family used to be, and with parents that were quite determined to keep the attitude of their family's former glory if not as many of the trappings as they might have liked. Young Roderich's musical ability with both piano and violin was seen as a Godsend, something respectable that could still help to earn them money, which the family desperately needed to pay off debts that they owed. For a time, thanks to touring around Europe, the family's fortunes seemed to be looking up. They were even able to take a holiday to Italy in the style that his parents felt was appropriate for them.
Roderich's family came to Italy on holiday one summer when the teen was fifteen years old. He was kidnapped by the Mendolia to be experimented on for his suitability for using the perforare. The experiments succeeded and he has been a (reluctant) part of the Mendolia family ever since. He avoids using his perforare ability whenever possible and his normal job is much closer to working the books for the family rather than anything violent. He dislikes working for the family, and tries to avoid getting too entangled with the business of the Mendolias, especially their continued kidnapping to test subjects for their suitability in using the perforare. Due to his lack of a violent nature, he has not risen very far in the family hierarchy, but this only bothers him because that means that people who are more violent and rude than he is can tell him what to do.
So far he has had to use his perforare against people three times, the first time was a near disaster, it was much too large and he fainted, the second time he accidentally burned himself over his torso, the third time everything was a success, but he still hates to use it, even if he has a good amount of control. Sometimes he has nightmares about his powers, when these happen he either goes for long walks around Palermo, not returning to his rooms until sunrise, or he will play, sometimes until his fingers bleed. Anything so that he no longer sees the flames.
He spends his off hours at any little bakeries or cafes the city has to offer or playing violin in his rooms.
Type of Bullet(s) Requested: Scortesia
Abilities gained from bullets:[Scortesia (Offensive)] Feuersbrunst: As the name implies, once shot, Roderich is able to deal a heavy amount of damage with what amounts to a massive firestorm. He has learned to control the size, but it will always be at least large enough to engulf a car. Anything larger tires him out and he has been known to pass out from larger blazes.
SAMPLES
First Person:[Grumbles to himself as he climbs a set of stairs]
Of all the idiotic, self-serving behavior, I cannot leave these morons alone long enough to get a cup of coffee in peace. When I find out who is responsible for this...
[frowns and stops in front of a door, taking a deep breath before he opens it and steps inside, still frowning, and his voice is raised, but calm]
Which one of you idiots is responsible for losing the order for my cake?
Third Person: The quiet, well-dressed man at the corner table was not the sort of man one would assume worked for the Mendolia family at first glance, or even second or third. Roderich Edelstein liked it that way, he was not some sort of legbreaker or a common criminal like many of the other members of the family. He was loyal, certainly enough, no one would ever fault him for that, and he did what was needed when it was needed, but he was not the sort that went looking for violent and criminal acts to commit.
He sipped at his coffee, composed and quiet as he read through one of the newspapers that the cafe provided for its patrons. A small pastry sat nearby, half eaten and ignored for the moment. It would seem the article he was reading had all of his attention right now. Or at least it did until the phone next to him started playing Chopin's "Winter Wind Etude." He sighed, folding the paper neatly and setting it beside his plate. He waited precisely three rings before picking it up, his tone polite despite the downward turn to his mouth. "Hello."
A pause, and the frown became more pronounced. "What happened? No, of course not. Yes, of course I" he paused, waiting for the man on the other end to finish his rant.
"You do realize that it is not my responsibility to take care of... that. Yes, of course I will. Well, perhaps you should have thought of that before hiring idiots with more muscle than brain." He sighed, adjusting his glasses. "If you will permit me to finish my coffee, it will be dealt with. Have a good day." With that he snapped the little phone shut with a frustrated sigh, grumbling to himself in German as he got up from the table. "You would think they could manage to keep things from falling apart the second I go to get some coffee. Mouth-breathing, idiotic, Neanderthals, the lot of them." He left the money and the tip on the table and walked out of the cafe with a determined step.
