Permanent Vegatative State

I just lost my digital TV on friday, so I've been forced to watch the basic channels. Better for my wallet I guess, and I'll probally start doing other things besides watching TV. Well one of those channels happens to be CNN and I've been wrapped up watching the terri shiavo contraversy. I can't halp but think about I would want done if I was her. ( Read more... )

It's not that simple, seeing as most of the news doesn't tell you what her husband has been doing during those 15 years. He has repeatedly denied her treatment that could have improved her condition, repeatedly denied her parents the right to visit her, and there have been allegations of abuse, there is even evidence that points to her initial "heart attack" that brought on this state being a result of abuse. I for one, don't believe Michael Schiavo. He already has two kids by another woman, and won't even let a priest administer the last rights (for a Catholic to be denied the last rights is highly unusal). His actions do not appear to have been in Terri's best interests for some time now. And secondly, would you like to die of starvation? Suppose that Terri really still can feel, still has access to some part of her conciousness, and just can't express it. If so, then she is being subjected to one of the most cruel and inhumane ways to die. We don't even kill our worst criminals like this, they are protected against "cruel ( ... )

And it's not a Permanent Vegitative State, it is a Persistent Vegitative State. It doesn't happen very often but people have recovered from this condition before.
