Freaking out here. I just spent 3 hrs with my lap top, it has a virus or something. It tells me there is spy ware and something else. Things keep opening. I finally got it to calm down for a min and searched for an anti virus. I downloaded and it found errors, then to get rid of them you have to buy. Right now I'm just irritated. Threatfire is a very good antivirus program.
It is available with a free version at http://www.threatfire.com/download/

what you picked up is the "Anti-virus" virus. It's designed to trick people to a certain site where they will sell you the "cure". They then have your credit card info.

Thank you. I installed it on my computers. I don't know if it's better yet. Still checking the lap top. But it seems to behave if it's not logged on to the interenet. I think of pop ups as the little adds that come when I'm on line. But I was getting full web pages even if I wasn't using the internet. And they all mention the Fast Internet test web page I went to months ago. They say it like I should be thanking them. "brought to you by Fast Internet (something or another)." Also every time I searched for an anti virus that we use at work every link took me to the same add page for a different anti virus. I think you are right about the anti virus virus.

It was almost done scanning on my computer and it froze. I rebooted and now I can't get threatfire to open again. It says it's working, but I can't get it to do restart the scan. When I push the scan button it closes. Is this normal?

I've never ran into this problem.
Usually I have threatfire running in the background.

I hate to say this, but you may have to remove the program, and then download it again. Once it's re-downloaded, have it check for any updates before starting the scan.
