I need tonsil advice asap... Avery has had enlarged tonsils most of her life, and in the last 4 months, they've gotten really big. She suffers from sleep apnea and I've taken her to the doctor. Did they call what you had as a child epiglotitis? sazrah October 21 2006, 01:49:10 UTC
I know that tonsils used to be removed fairly frequently but not so much anymore b/c they've figured out that tonsils are actually good things to have. I would totally look this up for you in my copy of Smart Medicine for a Healthier Child but I've already moved it to my new house and I'm still in my old house.
I'd say as long as your child is talking and acting normally, then she's getting enough air. If you start hearing a noise when she breathes (it's called stridor...the internet is so insane nowadays that you might even be able to google the sound of it) or if she looks bluish around her mouth or at the tips of her fingers or if she is sleepy acting then that is when you bust a move on down to the hospital. For now, can she/will she drink some hot tea and sit near a vaporizer? If there's no vaporizer, how about a steamy bathroom?
I'm sorry she's sickly still...she's had such a hard time of it with her ear, nose, and throat. Poor little sweetie.
xoxo

I'm happy with my decision to have Maya's tonsils removed but her symptoms were different than Avery's. Frequent throat infections, mostly. She doesn't snore anymore. Not much help, I know.
