Obama: Lincoln and Rahm Emanuel

Nov 09, 2008 17:02

"It has been almost 150 years since Americans turned to a proud son of Illinois as their President. Early in his first term, Abraham Lincoln said, "The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew, and act ( Read more... )

I have the biggest crush of all time on Mr. Emanuel...it would be hard not to, I think. I even like that he curses like a sailor, according to NPR. He's just so spicy. Reminds me a bit of a real life Dr. House. :)

Except he's happily married with three little kids that he adores, and he's religious. Like House perfected, if you ask me.

oh, I didn't mean any offense. I know he's married and m.o. I admire his style is all, and I'm excited to see the new administration taking shape..

No offense taken. I love House. I was just pointing out the substantial differences between the two of them. I'm excited too!

I've only heard of him recently, but it sounds like Rahm Emanuel is just what we need in a chief of staff.

I heard an interview with him on NPR a few months ago. He impressed the bejeepers out of me at the time.

I'll have to go find that. I want to hear who he is from the first person, not others' opinions now that I've got a decent perspective on his background.

I will say this: I think a lot of Presidents have gone in with wonderful noble agendas and still failed miserably. We have to wait and see. I have a lot of faith in Obama, but I'm trying not to count any chickens until I at least see some eggs cracking.

Let's start making the omelette. I don't think it will be long.

I do hear what you're saying. Take for instance Hillary Clinton's effort to revamp the health system when Pres. Clinton first ascended the White House. It was flawed in many ways, but reflects where you are coming from.

Exactly. And BTW, I just finished that NYT article about the brothers Emanuel. HOLY COW!!! It was very interesting and informative, but when you said "Chock full of typos," you were UNDERSTATING it! There was at least one in just about every paragraph and some had more than one. It was like reading an average blog from that standpoint. (Few people can write well anymore.) The difference being that most bloggers don't get paid. Don't they hire proofreaders there? The absolute worst of it is the fact that the article is ELEVEN YEARS OLD, which means they had ELEVEN YEARS to FIX the damned thing.

My favorite error in that was the word "Portfolion" instead of "Porfolio." One could argue that the brothers Emanuel do have "PortfoLIONs" rather than run-of-the-mill portfolios.

Anyway, I'd really like to find out what's become of their sister. I'm going to see if I can find out.

I've never seen anything akin to that on the NYT. It was almost as it had been hacked, but without purpose.
