[Aislinn, War and the others used with the knowledge of Pepper's mun who began us down this wicked path.]
No. It was the answer Aislinn gave War every time he asked her to marry him. She knew the others thought she was a bitch, more cold hearted than her mother without any of her father's sweetness and warmth. The others endured her not because they liked her, Michael excluded, but because they adored War. Of this she was sure. Of course, how could they not adore him?
Warren Worthington the Fourth was everything and heir and legacy should be. Tall, handsome, brilliant, charming. Had Aislinn been the sort to make wishes when she was a child, he would have been the prince she would have wished for. Not that she didn't think she was good enough for War. The truth be told, she thought she was the only woman that was good enough for War. He deserved a princess, a goddess, and she was all that and more. That didn't mean she was ready to say yes. Not yet.
Yes would mean the dream had been realized. Not her own, not even War's. The dreams of their parents, their mothers. Emma and Pepper. To Emma a marriage between Aislinn and War would be advantageous. It wasn't just Frost Enterprises and Worthington Industries but that of Stark Industries as well. It wasn't enough that the three were a powerhouse in business, the relationship between those that ran the three well known. They worked together, helped one another and while they weren't financial joined, they definitely scratched one anothers backs. A marriage between Aislinn and War would cement that.
No matter how much she loved War, Aislinn was not ready to be the glue holding the three powerhouses together.
As if that wasn't bad enough, they'd practically been raised together. Two kids, their mothers dearest friends, and Aislinn had been there when War was born. Or so her mother liked to tell her. She wasn't sure how that was supposed to make it better or worse but it didn't make things easier. It was beyond just them loving one another, they were expected to be together. Their marriage was a day their mothers had waited for, Emma and Pepper both likely seeking it out.
Aislinn didn't doubt that War wanted to marry her. She was just never sure why. Was it for the company? To please their parents? Or was it because he actually desired to be her husband, to love and cherish her and one day have children of their own. Until she was completely sure what it was War wanted, and why he wanted her, her answer would continue to be no.
