In this world if they talked about a "Circle" it would be some sort of pagan magical rite, at least stereotypically. If in this world science is the fantasy and magic the reality then maybe they're gonna just get together and do some experiments, build a robot or something. It would explain the gear and what she just said about "legitimate science related sites.
Maybe Steff's the MU world's equivalent of a New Age thinker, which I guess would be a scientist.
No kiddin'! That has needed to happen for a looong time. I love Stef, just because she is forcing Mac to lose her "I am evil and everything I want is wrong and icky" thought pattern. <3
Speaking from personal, *painful* experience it can often take someone you think is an ok person and a *normal* (ie not kinky) person telling you that they don't see anything wrong with your kinks to break the early conditioning.
After all, folks who are also kinky don't count because they have an ulterior motive in trying to sell being kinky as being not a bad thing.
(yes, people really do get their minds so twisted by parental and cultural brainwashing that they think that way)

i know what you meen im openly a very kniky person and it takes alot of courage telling my kinks to new lovers even if they have known me for awhile thinking they might not want to play anymore afterwards
*First comment dance* EEE! I love how this is turning out! *collapses into puddle of giggles* I bet she's gonna either be shocked by the circle, or be confused as to why everyone else thought it was so weird. I CAN"T WAIT!!! I am loving this...
