AU BACKGROUND: Born with a disfigured left arm, Allen was abandoned by his biological parents as an infant. He was shuffled between different foster homes and orphanages, each seeming more hostile than the last to him, until he was six years old, when he did what many children have threatened to do at least once in their lives: he ran away and joined the circus. Life under the big top wasn’t as glamorous as he’d hoped. Allen was put to work doing odd jobs-setting up equipment, cleaning up after animals, delivering meals to the performers. He couldn’t even escape the persecution he’d experienced in foster care: many of the performers jeered at or outwardly mocked his deformity, mistreating and abusing him.
A year after he joined the circus, Allen met and befriended a traveling clown named Mana Walker. The two quickly grew to love each other like family, and Mana ended up adopting the boy. What followed were the happiest years of Allen’s life. The boy and the clown traveled all around the country and performed together. Unlike most other people Allen had known, Mana looked past Allen's deformity and treated him like a full person. Finally, Allen had someone who loved him for who he was-someone he could call family.
Unfortunately, these happy times were not to last. On Allen’s tenth birthday-Christmas Eve-he and Mana were involved in a car accident. While Allen came away mostly unhurt aside from a nasty cut on his face, the accident killed Mana. The shock from the trauma triggered the full force of Allen’s mutation, turning his hair white and making his left arm morph into a weapon for the first time.
Shortly thereafter, Allen-confused, terrified, and still deeply devastated by Mana’s death-was found and taken in as an apprentice by an older mutant. Allen would spend the next five years traveling the globe and training under this man. His master, while brilliant and extraordinarily talented, was a lazy drunk and a womanizer with expensive taste, and Allen was often left cleaning up his messes and paying his debts.
Following the events that transpired at the mutant registration bill conference, Allen’s master abruptly announced that he was sending Allen to Xavier’s school. He sent an email to the administration, implanted directions to the school in his little robot and sent Allen off with no real explanation. Allen arrived at the Institute after a few days of traveling, still confused by the sudden change but excited to be enrolled in a real school for the first time in his life.
PERSONALITY: Allen is genuinely one of the nicest kids you’ll ever meet. He’s friendly, helpful, caring and polite, and doesn’t seem to have the capacity to hate. This mostly stems from a hero complex the size of Texas. Allen’s mission in life is to use his power to protect and save. He will fight fiercely to protect innocent people in any way he can. Even when it comes to his enemies, he seeks to save them rather than destroy them. Allen is extremely self-sacrificing: he always places the well being of others above his own. Because of this, he tends to get hurt often, both physically and emotionally. He often puts on a cheerful mask even when he’s feeling terrible so that others won’t worry about him.
Deep down, Allen has a lot of issues that have long gone unresolved because of his tendency to cover up his angst. A good portion of his hero complex stems from the guilt he feels about surviving the accident and not being able to save Mana. He’s also still very self-conscious when it comes to his mutation and considers it both a gift and a curse. Allen has never really been loved by anybody aside from Mana (and maybe his master, in his own unconventional way), and he’s learned to expect cruelty from people. Rather than jading him, though, this has led him to be even more determined to be friendly to people in the hopes that he might soften their hearts. Above all, in memory of Mana, he’s vowed to keep moving forward no matter what happens.
Allen also has a “black side,” an unexpectedly dark edge that sometimes shows itself when he’s involved in some kind of competition. He’s not above cheating and fighting dirty in order to win, especially when the stakes are high.
APPEARANCE: Allen stands at about 5’6”, and he’s slight and fit (which is probably surprising if you’ve seen how much this kid eats). His hair is chin-length and white and his eyes are blue-grey. He has a strangely ornate scar on the right side of his face. It begins as an upside-down star shape on his forehead and continues in a line down over his right eye to his jawline. The skin on his left arm is rough, red and scaly, and that arm as a whole is a bit bulkier than his right. He’s self-conscious about his arm and usually wears long sleeves and a glove to cover it up.
POWERS: Allen’s left arm is a mutable weapon. It works like a normal arm most of the time, but at will he can make his hand turn into a powerful set of claws. As he gets stronger, he’ll be able to turn his arm into a few other things, including an arm cannon and a sword. He also has an extremely high metabolism-his body consumes far more calories than a normal person, and he has to eat like crazy to compensate for it.
ANYTHING ELSE?: Accompanying Allen is Timcampy, a golden snitch tennis ball-sized robot with wings and a tail that functions as a communication and storage device. Basically, Tim works like a flying PDA with a personality. It has a speaker and a camera, and its tail ends in a USB plug so that it can be hooked up to a computer. Its body also has a mouth it can open so that small objects can be stored inside (Tim’s AI often abuses this ability to snack on food and other objects). Allen’s master built Tim, and Allen himself isn’t quite sure how the robot works.
Allen knows some circus tricks, like juggling and balancing on a ball-things he learned during his time with Mana. He’s also an excellent card cheat, an unfortunately necessary skill he picked up while traveling with his master.
