NEW YORK, NY-August 14, 2006-With the directive to title a move that "stars" a menacing giant squid, movie fans logged onto SCIFI.COM during the month of July to submit their best ideas for a juicy movie moniker. As a result, the aptly titled Kraken: Tentacles of the Deep was born. Starring Victoria Pratt, Charlie O'Connell and Jack Scalia, 'Kraken: Tentacles of the Deep' will premiere Saturday, September 23 @ 9pm ET/PT only on SCI FI. SCIFI.COM received thousands of entries in their open call for a winning movie title. Other contenders considered include: 'Two Guys A Girl and a Giant Squid;' 'Tentacles Eight: Humans Two;' 'The Squid Stays in the Picture;' 'Stop or My Squid Will Shoot' and 'Killamari.'

It’s That Fracken Kraken
August 15, 2006 By Sam Sloan

To get scifi and creature-feature fans into this one early, last month SCI FI asked their viewers to log into SCIFI.COM and come up with a name for the big squid flick which will star Victoria Pratt, Charlie O’Connell and Jack Scalia. Fans responded in droves and the winner came up with this little gem called “Kraken: Tentacles of the Deep.” Hey, the title alone is worth a few minutes of my time to take a gander at it.

WHAT'S ON TONIGHT

9 P.M. (Sci Fi) KRAKEN: TENTACLES OF THE DEEP -- Movie buffs named this one by voting on the channel's Web site in July. The premise: a marine biologist and a couple of sailors go in search of vast riches watched over by a beast of terrifying proportions (above) -- the same creature that killed one's parents years before, but not before their son gouged out an eye. You get the picture. Victoria Pratt, Jack Scalia and Charlie O'Connell, perhaps best known as ''The Bachelor'' of Season 7, play the daring trio.

Kraken: Tentacles of the Deep DVD Starring Charlie O’Connell, Victoria Pratt, Jack Scalia, Kristi Angus, Christa Campbell

Jump forward to Desolation Passage again, now present day. Nicole (Victoria Pratt of “Mutant X”, “Cleopatra 2525″, and quite a few Sci-Fi Channel original movies of late) leads an expedition in search of a priceless opal. The crew consists of herself, two of her students that can’t keep their hands off one another, and an old boat captain. You are aware that all female marine archaeologists are hot blondes, aren’t you? According to this film, it’s true. One’s a teacher and another’s a student (even though she doesn’t look that much younger) and both are hot blondes. Vicki Pratt spends most of the film in bikini tops even though Desolation Passage is said to be north of Vancouver, Canada.
....
He knows what kind of movie this is supposed to be as opposed to O’Connell and Pratt, both of whom come across like a couple of wet drips. Pratt’s pleasant enough and easy on the eyes, but there’s nothing to her character and no good reason why her character and her quest for this opal should take center stage over O’Connell’s squid vengeance.

Ray (Charlie O'Connell, Sliders) knew the day would come when he had the chance to avenge the death of his parents. As a child he witnessed mom and dad get skewered by a giant squid and since then has prepared himself for the opportunity to exact sweet vengeance on the murderous beast. That chance has arrived, in the form of the lovely Nicole (Victoria Pratt, Mutant X), a marine archaeologist (or something) that is hot on the trail of some famed Greek relics.
....
Victoria Pratt and Charlie O'Connell and a charming arm rip are the only highlights of what is ultimately an unimpressive, by-the-numbers, computer-generated, creature feature. The two lead actors have great chemistry and come away looking as if they're actually trying and not just showing up to cash a paycheck. Their characters are cookie-cutter-Ray is the emotionally scarred mystery man with a score to settle; and Nicole is the passive-aggressive strong female who fills out a sports bra nicely-but the actors manage to infuse enough energy into them to keep things interesting.

Kraken: Tentacles of the Deep (2006)

The title wants you to believe differently, but it’s actually an adventure film with Victoria Pratt and a couple of interns looking for sunken treasure that’s guarded by a mythological sea monster.
....
Something else it has going for it are the leads. Maybe I’m just still in love with her from Cleopatra 2525, but I find Victoria Pratt extremely watchable and the best part of any movie she’s in.
