Bio from The Official Mutant X Site: Rick Ungar, president of the Marvel Characters Group, is counted among the world’s more successful animated character creators, producers, marketers and executives. Ungar began his animation career at New World/Marvel Animation where the company grew from a start-up operation to become a worldwide leader in children’s entertainment production, distribution and merchandising. During Ungar’s first season with New World /Marvel, he participated in the packaging, development and production of the long running Fox Children’s Network hit animated television series The X-Men. New World’s success with X-Men was followed up with Ungar’s own creation, the internationally popular Biker Mice From Mars. Biker Mice would go on to achieve television ratings prominence throughout the world along with a highly successful merchandising campaign producing over 350 products in distribution bearing the Biker Mice From Mars trademarks. In addition to creating, producing and writing many episodes of the series, Ungar supervised the licensing program on Biker Mice From Mars through a joint venture of New World Licensing and his wholly owned Brentwood Licensing Company - the company also responsible for the licensing and merchandising of the long popular Kliban Cat. During his tenure at New World/Marvel, Ungar executive produced and/or supervised such successful animated programs as Spider-Man, The Hulk and The Marvel Action Hour, along with the Academy Award-nominated theatrical short Gahan Wilson’s The Diner. In the years following the sale of New World Entertainment, Ungar continued to executive produce numerous animated programs, including Roswell Conspiracies and Dan Dare - Pilot of the Future, a series based on the beloved British character that is currently in production. He also devoted time to consulting a variety of companies in areas involving children’s marketing, animation finance, and worldwide distribution while sitting on various corporate boards such as BKN, Inc. Returning to the world of Marvel in 1999, Ungar assumed responsibility for all television programming along with various additional executive and advisory functions within the company. In 2000, Ungar revisited his X-Men roots with the launch of the hit Kids’WB! animated series X-Men: Evolution. In 1995, Ungar added live-action programming and production to his responsibilities at New World. He supervised the creation, development and launch of the daily entertainment news series Access Hollywood along with other programs for New World’s twelve television stations and Genesis Domestic Distribution. Ungar began his career in the entertainment industry as an attorney specializing in the first-run syndication business, intellectual property issues surrounding animated characters and matters pertaining to the licensing industry. He remains a member of the State Bar of California. Ungar’s community involvements include a seat on the Board of Trustees for Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times and active participation with Bet Tzedek Legal Aid Society. In 1996, Ungar was privileged to be the honoree at a Los Angeles County Hillel Council fund raising event, chaired by Edgar Bronfman Sr., which resulted in the establishment of a multi-ethnic educational fund in his name. In his spare time, Ungar indulges his interest in public affairs by writing public policy articles for the Los Angeles Daily Journal. Ungar lives with his family in Los Angeles.
