Official Synopsis: Inside a bank vault, four men knock out a guard as they move toward the safety deposit boxes. One of the men, Einstein (Stuart Stone), uses a laptop computer to find the box they're looking for and Nick (Aleks Paunovic), the explosives expert, blows the lock. The other two, Ethan (Robert Seeliger) and Cole (Daniel Petronijevic), dump the contents of the box on the floor and Einstein picks up a hologram key. He hands it to Ethan and the four are about to leave when the guard comes to and shoots Einstein in the leg. As Cole and Nick rush out, Ethan shoots the guard and then kills Einstein. The next morning, the Mutant X team watches security footage from the bank. Seeing the key, Lexa (Karen Cliche) informs them that it opens another safety deposit box that holds a disk containing the Dominion's genetic research program. Brennan (Victor Webster) suddenly recognizes Cole as his partner in crime before he came to Mutant X and agrees to infiltrate the gang to find out whom they stole the key. As Jesse (Forbes March) puts together a rap sheet on Brennan to make it seem as if he's been in prison since he last saw Cole, he suddenly discovers that Adam had already created one. That night, Brennan is outside the bar that he and Cole frequented when he hears Adam's (John Shea) voice behind him. Brennan turns to find Adam's hologram in the alley. His shock turns to anger and he refuses to listen when Adam warns that he is in danger. Brennan storms off and enters the bar where he sees Cole ordering a drink. Cole is stunned to see Brennan, but is excited when he says he's ready to get back in on the action. Cole agrees to introduce Brennan to the man he's working with and leads him to a back room where Ethan and Nick are playing cards. Angry that Cole brought in a stranger, Ethan orders Nick and another thug to get rid of Brennan. The two men take him into the alley, but Brennan uses a series of swift moves to take them out. He then turns to find Ethan behind him, flanked by two men with guns. Before they can fire, however, Brennan fires coils of electricity at their hands, forcing them to drop the guns. Impressed, Ethan agrees to let Brennan join the team. Unbeknownst to Brennan, Shalimar (Victoria Pratt) is watching and reporting his movements to Jesse and Lexa. Scrolling through the security footage, Jesse learns that Michael Hayes put the hologram key in the safety deposit box, but all records of Hayes have been erased. Meanwhile, as Ethan grills Brennan about some prison inmates he knows, Jesse uses his computer to feed Brennan information about the inmates. When Ethan asks about one of the inmate's wives, Adam breaks into Brennan's line and tells him what to say, causing Jesse to wonder how Brennan got the information. At Sanctuary, Lexa's Dominion contact informs her that Hayes used to work for the Dominion, but is now dead. He stresses the importance of Brennan leading them to intercept the disk. Later, Cole and Brennan leave to meet the others and prepare for a job. Together with Nick, the three cover their faces with bandanas and hold up an armored truck. As they force the guards out of the truck, one of them pulls down Cole's bandana. Nick is about to shoot him, but Brennan intervenes and hits the man with an electrical bolt, saving his life. They take the truck to Ethan, who is furious that Brennan left the guard alive. At Sanctuary, Jesse traces a call to Ethan's cell phone and Shalimar and Lexa rush to the location, but it's a dead end. Meanwhile, Brennan and the band of criminals plan their next heist and Brennan puts his comlink ring in his pocket, cutting off contact with Mutant X. A short time later, Lexa enters the bar and walks over to Brennan and Cole, acting as if she's Brennan's former lover. He leads her to a private booth where she accuses him of being out of control and not keeping Mutant X informed. He tells her about the job they're pulling that night and she insists he make sure Ethan gets the disk and leads them to the buyer. The next morning, Brennan and the gang pose as guards and drive the armored truck to a bank. As Brennan, Nick and Ethan are let through to the vault with their delivery, Cole stays behind with the security guard. Arriving at the vault, the bank manager is waiting for them. Nick suddenly shoots the security camera as Ethan aims his gun at the manager. Before he can pull the trigger, however, Brennan knocks the manager out with a swift punch. Remembering their warning about witnesses, Brennan grabs Ethan's gun and fires at the manager. Unbeknownst to everyone but Brennan, however, the bullet missed the man. Brennan then removes a hologram key from the manager's pocket and hands it to Nick, who follows Ethan into the vault. They use both hologram keys to open a safety deposit box and remove the disk inside. Suddenly noticing that Brennan has disappeared, Ethan takes the opportunity to shoot Nick. Seeing the murder from the hallway, Brennan then finds Cole and informs him that Ethan killed Nick and has double-crossed them. Knowing time is limited, Brennan asks Cole to take him to the meeting area where the buyer is going to be. Arriving at a parking structure, Ethan walks towards an awaiting car. When a bag filled with money is dropped from the car's window, Ethan tosses the disk into the car. Brennan appears and knocks Ethan back with a tesla coil. He is just about to shoot another blast at the car, but stops when he sees Adam in the driver's seat. Just then, Shalimar rushes up and Brennan tells her the buyer got away, but the disk has been destroyed. Shalimar's feral senses pick up movement and they turn to find Ethan approaching with his gun aimed at Brennan. Brennan quickly fires off a massive bolt of electricity, frying Ethan for good. That night at Sanctuary, Adam's hologram appears to Brennan and reveals that Hayes was a friend of his and that the disk is encrypted with proof of wrong doings within the Dominion and he is working to decipher it. Warning Brennan that Mutant X will soon be tested to their breaking point, Adam fades away.

Quotes:
Jesse: You wanna fill us in, or should we all break off into smaller groups?

Brennan: Man, I haven’t seen Cole since the day I joined Mutant X. I’m sure as far as he’s concerned, I dropped off the face of the earth. Yep, the good old days, huh? B&E, grand theft auto-well, that was until I moved us up to bank robbery.
Jesse: That must look good on your resume.

Brennan: So what’s taking so long with my rap sheet, huh?
Jesse: Hey, three years is a long time to be under the radar, all right? [pause] The hell? Adam’s already made you a profile. I mean, he didn’t upload it to the police database, but there it is: your mug shot and rap sheet. Looks like he made it the day you joined Mutant X. I guess he figured that if things didn’t work out for you here, you’d always have a get out of Mutant X free card, huh?
Brennan: I guess he had his doubts about me back then.

Shalimar: I think it’s a bad idea sending Brennan in there. You know the leader of that gang is a killer, and Cole is way too unpredictable.
Lexa: Brennan can take care of himself.
Shalimar: Lex, you don’t get it. Brennan used to say he and Cole were adrenaline junkies. It’s like some kind of death wish thing. I mean, they used to steal cars in the winter and race them on the lake. Brennan almost died once when his car went through the ice.
Lexa: Okay, maybe that was true back then, but Brennan’s changed.
Shalimar: What if you’re wrong?

Brennan: Adam? You son of a bitch!
Adam: You have every right to be angry, but I had to disappear for the survival of Mutant X.
Brennan: Where are you? I’m not talking to a hologram.
Adam: I can’t tell you. You’ll just have to trust me.
Brennan: What, like you trusted me?
Adam: All right, look. I always believed in your potential, but you’re right. At first I wasn’t sure that you could make it as one of the team.
Brennan: So that profile that you created, that was just a contingency plan?
Adam You could say that. It’s important that you keep my presence a secret from the others.
Brennan: I’m sick and tired of your secrets.
Adam: Your friend Cole is in way over his head.
Brennan: What, you don’t think I know that? Who you working for now, Adam? The Dominion?
Adam: No, but the Dominion is scared, and when they’re scared, they’re dangerous.
Brennan: What, you just came back to give me a pep talk?
Adam: Look, you don’t know what you’re walking into. You’ve gotta listen to me.
Brennan: No, Adam. You gave up that right the day you vanished off the face of the earth.

Shalimar: Brennan’s made contact. Looks like he’s about to get a face to face with the leader of that gang.
Lexa: Don’t get too excited there, Shal.
Shalimar: Don’t worry, I won’t.

Lexa: C'mon Jess, you're the master! I’m sure you’ll find a way to figure it out.
Jesse: Is that your lame way of buttering me up?
Lexa: Actually, I was being sincere. Just do it, okay?

Shalimar: Brennan really fried that guard. He’s still in intensive care.
Jesse: They would’ve popped him in a heartbeat. My guess is, Brennan saved his life.
Shalimar: Why are you defending him? He’s in over his head.
Jesse: I’m sure Brennan had reasons to do what he did. Shal, Brennan knew this job was dangerous when he took it.
Shalimar: Okay, so why didn’t he tell us the armored truck job was going down?
Jesse: Maybe he couldn’t.
Shalimar: You’re making excuses for him.
Jesse: He’s playing the part.
Shalimar: Yeah, a part that might get him killed.

Ethan: Yo, Static! What’re you gonna remember this time?
Brennan: The rules of engagement.

Brennan: What do you expect me to do, Adam? Turn my back on my friends?
Adam: Your friend’s already involved and it’s too late to try to protect him. Your allegiance should be to one thing and one thing only: Mutant X.

Lexa: Brennan! You’re out! Why didn’t you call me? You said you loved me.
Brennan: What’re you talking about, baby? Of course I love you. Just spending a little time with my boy, having a drink. You know you’re on the top of my list.
Lexa: List? I am not on anybody’s list, all right?

Lexa [to Brennan]: You’re a lousy kisser, you know that?

Lexa: Listen, my friend is out there putting his life on the line for what your husband started. Now I am not leaving here until you tell me everything you know.
Mrs. Hayes: He was terrified for his life. He found proof of corruption within the agency.
Lexa: That’s not possible.
Mrs. Hayes: I told him to look the other way, but he wouldn’t.
Lexa: Well, do you have any idea who he was trying to get it to?
Mrs. Hayes: I wish I did. He just said he was trying to get it to someone he could trust.

Lexa: Well, Brennan managed to destroy the disk before the buyer got away. But I’m afraid he wasn’t able to identify him.
The Voice: How could you let this happen? Our orders were very clear!
Lexa: Wait, wait. Brennan’s orders changed the moment the mission demanded it. You know, he was lucky to get out of there alive, never mind destroy the disk. Geez, it wouldn’t kill you to pat us on the back every once in a while, you know.
The Voice: Tell Mr. Mulwray the Dominion appreciates his efforts.
Lexa: There, you see? Now that didn’t hurt, did it?
Jesse: What I don’t understand: why did Brennan destroy that disk?
Lexa: I don’t know. I’m sure he had his reasons.

Brennan: I can’t believe that you were the buyer this whole time. That you hired Ethan’s crew, that you set this whole thing up.
Adam: I had to get the disk. Hayes was a friend of mine. He was killed before he could get it to me. Which is proof of impropriety high up in The Dominion.
Brennan: Did you even stop to consider for one second how many people might get caught in the crossfire?
Adam: It was never my intention. I had no idea that Ethan was willing to kill innocent people.
Brennan: And would that have made a difference? What’s on the disk?
Adam: I was hoping to find some answers. Instead I’m left with more questions.
Brennan: Well, ain’t that sweet.
Adam: You have to believe me that this was important for all of us.
Brennan: Then answer me this question. Adam, why’d you pick me? Just to test my loyalties?
Adam: You really think I would’ve put you in this position if that was ever in doubt?
Brennan: Oh, that’s a nice way of avoiding my question.
Adam: All right. I think you’re all in for tough times. I think that Mutant X is about to be tested, maybe to the breaking point.
Brennan: What, by you? The Dominion? Who?
Adam: You’ll know when the time comes.

Trivia & Nitpicks: We find out a new use for comlink rings in this episode: cloning cellphones.

It's amazing that The Dominion's entire genetic research program can fit on a single disk, especially considering the scope of The Dominion's projects and the fact that The Creator has been fiddling with DNA for over one hundred years. If Adam received all that information, why wouldn’t that give him all the information he could ever need? It would at the very least tell him how to stabilize the new mutant’s DNA.

What is that silver metal thing Brennan’s playing with at the beginning of the episode? It looks like a piece taken from a giant game of jacks.

Adam created a rap sheet for Brennan in case he didn’t work out with Mutant X. He supposedly made it the day Brennan joined Mutant X, but the hairstyle Brennan has in the photo isn’t the one he had in Season one. And why didn't Adam delete it after Brennan had been with the group for a good while?

Adam first appears to Brennan in our beloved S3 alleyway-you can see "The Prophecy"’s telephone booth in the background.

As they are fighting, Nick pushes Brennan back into the car behind them, but the car alarm doesn’t go off until Nick actually shatters the windshield. They just don't make car alarms the way they used to.

Ethan’s not a bit surprised to see Brennan’s electricity. “So you’re the real McCoy, huh?” I guess he's heard of mutants before.

When Jesse goes to his computer to pull up the names of the two inmates Ethan quizzes Brennan about the list of inmates on his screen includes the real-life Mutant X production crew members Johnathan Hackett, Karen Wookey, Rick Ungar, and Avi Arad.

Adam to Brennan: "Your allegiance should be to one thing and one thing only: Mutant X." Yeah, you’re one to talk, buddy.

It's a shame that there is barely any food for the kids to eat in the third season. Lexa’s so hungry in this episode that she swipes a fortune cookie from the chinese delivery guy after they discover that he took Adam's cellphone.

Speaking of which, why can’t they get a DNA trace from the cellphone the buyer used in order to find out who he is? Jesse was able to do that with Leo’s necklace in "Brother's Keeper."
