Official Synopsis: Unwanted emotions sweep over Brennan (Victor Webster) while he watches a video email from his ex-girlfriend, Becky (Christina Cox), asking him to meet her. As he drives through his old neighborhood, a young boy, Connor (Patrick Salvagna), darts in front of his car. When Brennan stops, Connor approaches and explains that Becky is waiting for him in a nearby alley. Becky informs Brennan that Connor is his son and pleads for his help. Suddenly, police and feds surround them and Brennan instinctively shoots bolts of electricity at the men, which allows for him, Connor and Becky to escape. Meanwhile at Sanctuary, Adam (John Shea), Jesse (Forbes March) and Shalimar (Victoria Pratt) examine blurry images from police cameras. Seeing an explosion of powerful electrical charges, Adam is not sure if they’re coming from a weapon or a new mutant, and sends Jesse to investigate. In the car, Becky tells Brennan that she lifted a briefcase full of cash and a disk from Congress candidate Daniel Foster (Jack Langedijk) who will stop at nothing to get it back. Fearing for her and Connor’s safety, Becky is planning to blackmail Foster into buying the disk back from her and needs Brennan’s help. After much debate, he agrees knowing that Connor’s life might be at risk. He calls the team on his comlink and lies about his whereabouts, but Emma doesn’t buy his story. Meanwhile at campaign headquarters, ex-marine Stephan Bailey (Alan C. Peterson), who’s defense contract is dependent on Foster winning the election, reminds Foster that he’ll surely lose if word gets out that the disk is missing. Certain that Brennan is up to something, Emma and Shalimar search his room and find Becky’s email. Across town Connor takes Brennan to where they hid the disk while Becky calls Foster and demands two million dollars for the safe return of the disk. Back at Sanctuary, Jesse confirms that Brennan had been involved in the police incident earlier that day while Shalimar and Emma search the database for information on Becky. Meanwhile at Bailey Industries, Bailey shows Foster six QJ-14’s -- reanimated bodies of dead soldiers that are virtually indestructible. If Foster is to win election, he plans to create an army of them using federal funding. He then shows a picture of Becky to two of the powerful QJ-14’s and orders them to kill her and retrieve the disk. When Shalimar comes across a photo of Becky and Foster at a fundraiser, she shows Adam who recognizes Bailey in the background and becomes suspicious. After lunch at Doolan’s Diner, Connor distracts the waitress while Brennan retrieves the disk from the broken jukebox. Exiting the diner, they see Shalimar and Emma who reprimand Brennan for his actions. Suddenly, Connor gets a phone call from Becky who is surrounded by QJ-14s and Brennan and Connor speed off to her rescue. The two arrive at the warehouse just as a QJ-14 scans Becky’s brain and learns she knows the location of the disk. Brennan uses his powers to divert QJ-14 A (Tig Fong) and B (Dean Copkov) allowing Becky and himself to escape. In the Mustang, Brennan puts the disk in his laptop and discovers it contains a list of illegal contributions made to the Foster campaign. After sending Becky and Connor to a motel to hide, Brennan returns to Sanctuary to enlist the teams’ help. Back at the motel, a distraught Becky informs Brennan that Connor has been kidnapped and they must bring the disk to the park gazebo in one hour. When Brennan leaves to call Adam, Becky contacts Foster to make arrangements for the switch. Overhearing the conversation, Connor becomes upset that Becky has set Brennan up and rushes to the park to warn him. At the park, Jesse and Shalimar pose as civilians to provide Brennan back up. Just as Brennan sees the QJ-14’s approaching, he hears Connor call out to him and knows he’s been set up. Happy that Connor is safe, Brennan sends him out of harms way as the soldiers close in. As Baily and Foster watch on a monitor, Foster has a sudden change of heart and decides to come clean to the public. This infuriates Bailey and he shoots Foster dead. Escaping the QJ-14s, Brennan arrives back at the motel and hears Becky yelling at Connor for foiling her plans and tells him that Brennan is not really his father. Infuriated, Brennan confronts Becky about her dishonesty as two QJ-14s approach the room. As the team hovers above the motel in the Double Helix, Adam searches for the frequency that controls the QJ-14s. The soldiers bust through the hotel door just as Shalimar and Jesse appear. They help Brennan battle the two QJ-14s while Connor and Becky hide in the bathroom. Just in the nick of time, Adam locks onto the signal and the QJ-14s collapse. Watching on a monitor at his company headquarters, Bailey suddenly realizes that he is no longer in control of the QJ-14s. Adam then uses the signal to turn the rest of the QJ-14s against their creator Bailey. Later, Connor and Becky say their goodbyes to Brennan, who promises Connor that he’ll watch out for him.

Quotes: Connor Dolan: Feds!
Brennan: Well, nice to see you’re not neglecting his education.

Emma: The last time I saw you, you bolted out of here without saying two words.
Brennan: All right, here’s two words for you: I’m sorry.

Connor: So is this where all the magic happened?
Brennan: Shut up.
Connor: No, really. How long has it been since you’ve seen each other?
Becky Dolan: Connor, why don’t you...I don’t know...go get some wood or something for a fire?
Connor: Ever since he showed up, you’ve been trying to get rid of me.
Becky: Oh yeah? Well, it’s only because you’re soooo annoying.
Brennan: Yeah. Listen to your mother. [Brennan starts a fire]
Connor: Woah, am I gonna get to do that?
Becky: Just because he can, doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be able to.
Connor: I was just trying to ask my father some questions.
Brennan: Hey. If you were able to do it, you would have known by now.
Connor: Damn it.
Brennan: Watch your language!

Emma: She’s hot, it’s not hard to imagine why he fell so hard.
Shalimar: Yeah, I don’t think she’s so special.

Brennan: So, you in school?
Connor: You don’t have to act interested. Mom already told me you’re not into the whole father thing.
Brennan: Hey, wait a minute. I didn’t even know I was a father until today.
Connor: Yeah, whatever.
Brennan: Hey, kid! I’m just going at this whole thing blind just like you.
Connor: Fine, I’ll cut you some slack.
Brennan: Thanks. So is this where your mom hid the disk, or are you just scamming me for a free lunch?
Connor: It’ll cost you a burger and fries to find out.

Connor: They’re hot.
Brennan: Connor, get in the car.
Connor: Come on, tell me. Are they single?
Brennan: Connor, get in the car!

Connor: Fork over some cash. I’m hungry.
Brennan: What are you kidding me? Do you have a hollow leg?
Connor: I’m having a growth spurt!
Brennan: Here. Don’t eat the change.

Becky: Brennan, we had a deal.
Brennan: Yeah, that was before I saw what was on this disk.
Becky: That disk is not yours to give.
Brennan: Well, it’s not yours either. And I’m not giving you a choice.
Becky: Oh, you are exactly the same! You won’t play unless you get to call all the shots.
Brennan: I know a place where you and Connor can be safe. I’ve got a guy that I trust, I just have to get the disk to him.
Connor: Hey, what’s going on?
Becky: Nothing. You’re father’s just letting us down.
Brennan: Hey, you know what? End of discussion.

Jesse: Brennan’s just running a little late, that’s all.
Shalimar: No, he’s blowing us off. I can feel it.
Jesse: Oh, are you Emma now?
Shalimar: No, it goes deeper than that. He really likes that woman.
Jesse: You know, that woman does have a name.
Shalimar: Yeah, well I’ve got my own special name for her.
Jesse: Oh, meow.

Brennan: Is everything a game to you?! You can’t stop conning people, can you?
Becky: Look, I was a kid when I had him, Brennan. I had to survive. What did you expect me to do?
Brennan: Stop treating everyone in your life like an easy mark!
Becky: I never wanted anyone to get hurt, least of all you. You don’t understand how hard it is. I mean, just the two of us?
Brennan: You know, you’re sick, Becky.
Connor: Don’t talk to her like that!
Brennan: I’m sorry, Connor, okay? I’m really, really, sorry.
Connor: Just leave.

Adam: I’m trying to find a way to block the signals that control those things.
Brennan: Well, start flipping some damned switches!

Emma: Come on, crank it up a few notches. Let’s see him really sweat.
Adam: Well, as tempting as that sounds, I think in the long run, I’d rather see him fry.

Brennan: So your mom is gonna try to go straight, and I’m counting on you to make her keep that promise.
Connor: Is that my job?
Brennan: No, your job is to keep in touch with me. Cause whether you like it or not, I’m gonna be looking out for you.
Connor: You know you don’t have to do this.
Brennan: Why, 'cause you’re not my son? Like I said, I can’t help myself.

Becky: I’m sorry I messed up your life again.
Brennan: That’s okay. It seems to be what you do best.
Becky: Maybe it’s time I find something else I’m good at, huh?
Brennan: Yeah.
Becky: I want you to know that you were never a mark to me. You‘re the only person that I’ve ever trusted.

Brennan: For the longest time, I couldn’t even imagine being a father. Now, I can’t imagine not being one.
Jesse: Connor will be okay.
Brennan: Yeah. Yeah, he’s tough.
Shalimar: Just like you.

Trivia & Nitpicks: Brennan’s high school sweetheart, Becky Dolan, shared an apartment with him until she dumped him and ran off with his money. She doesn’t seem surprised to see Brennan’s abilities, so clearly, she was another person Brennan told before joining Mutant X... Gee, he really snowed Emma in “Shock of the New,” didn’t he?

Con woman Becky’s son’s name is Con-nor. Get it?

Shalimar knows Brennan’s computer password.

Has Adam lost some of his famous computational skills in this episode? Why’s he asking Jesse if there’s a way to determine the force of the blast by checking out the cop car? Next episode, he’s calculating drill ratios, wall thickness, and room volumes.

Shalimar’s got a point. For a former con man, Brennan certainly doesn’t lie well. It’s so obvious that he’s fibbing when he talks about his friend’s wedding...and he’s trying to do so to Emma, who knows better.

When Brennan watches Becky’s message, she says, “I’m sure I’m the last person you ever wanted to hear from again. I mean, you probably hate me. But I really-I really need to see you, Brennan. And to finally say I’m sorry.” But when Emma and Shalimar replay the message, her words have changed to “I’m sure I’m the last person you ever wanted to see again. I mean, you probably hate me. But I really need to see you. I mean, to finally say I’m sorry.”

Adam says he doesn’t know anyone else capable of throwing off a charge like Brennan, but last episode, he said there were lots of experiments Genomex did that he knew nothing about. And we know that there are other electrical elementals; Gabriel Ashlocke had at least one in “Past as Prologue."

The QJ-14's eyes glow blue; blue never bodes well in Mutant X.

A couple alarms should sound in Brennan’s head during Becky’s waterworks act. Since the QJ-14s read minds, they should’ve known about the disk in the ceiling lamp. Even if Brennan’s unaware of their telepathic abilities, he should be wondering why Becky didn’t just hand them the disk to save Connor. With Connor as a hostage, she wouldn’t get paid anyway.

Ten bucks says Becky stole Brennan’s wallet as she was hugging him and assuring him that he was never a mark to her. Even odds?
