Source: Ryan Rotten June 6, 2007
Canadian actress Lauren Lee Smith is in the midst of getting her hands downright sloppy with gore in the upcoming thriller Pathology for Lakeshore Entertainment, all in a day's work for the red-haired beauty who, from the sounds of it, gets exposed to plenty of the red stuff in Mike Dougherty's Trick 'r Treat (coming to theaters October 5th from Warner Bros.). In the dark holiday-themed film, Smith plays Danielle, "Anna Paquin's older sister," she reveals from the set of Lakeshore's macabre medical tale. "Our storyline is basically - there's Anna, myself and two other girls and we're just big town, sophisticated girls who, on Halloween night, decide to get dressed up as these seductive storybook characters over the course of the evening." But the night isn't all about playing dress-up, as she explains. Plenty of twists and turns abound. "We end up not being at all what we first appear to be...then there's blood, guts and gore and all of that other good stuff!"
She speaks highly of her conductor of carnage, Dougherty, who makes his directorial debut with this feature. "Mike is literally like a five-year-old child who would run around set and was so excited about everything. Great energy, he keeps everything light and he's totally a morbid dude. Sick and twisted."

Lauren: Ummm, I hopefully have a few things coming out. I hope they’ll see the light of day. Umm, you never know. *Laughs* Ummm, there’s a film called Trick R’ Treat, that I think uh is coming out sometime in the summer. Which is a little bit weird as it’s a Halloween movie. *laughs* Sooo, that should be interesting.

Shock Till You Drop 10/16/08: Lauren Lee Smith Trick 'r Treat
Reviewed by: Ryan
Trick 'r Treat's foundation is built on playing with your expectations. The narrative is a bouncy disjointed journey focusing on four parallel-running stories set in a small town on Halloween night. One tale introduces us to Dylan Baker's irritable principal who issues candy every child should fear. True Blood's Anna Paquin and Lauren Lee Smith play sisters at the center of another story about four gals feeling frisky in their costumes and prowling the streets for men.
....
Paquin and company lend the film its needed sex appeal which has an applause-worthy pay-off and just the presence of Cox (reuniting with Dougherty after X2: X-Men United) elevates the film to whole new level.

CSI Fanatic)
September 15, 2008
Michael Dougherty's directorial feature debut Trick 'r Treat is coming to Los Angeles. The horror anthology screens on Friday, October 10th at Screamfest (exact time forthcoming). Starring Anna Paquin (now starring in True Blood), Brian Cox, Leslie Bibb, Dylan Baker, Moneca Delain and Lauren Lee Smith, Dougherty's film focuses on the consequences that can come to those who dismiss Halloween's archaic traditions. Warner Bros. has held the film in distribution limbo since 2007 when it was scheduled to release the picture around Halloween. Other than a smattering of early test screenings and festival appearances, this will be the first time Trick 'r Treat plays to a Los Angeles audience.

The fest runs from October 10th - 19th at Mann's Chinese 6 Theaters.

Synopsis: It is said that Halloween is the night when the dead rise to walk among us and other unspeakable things roam free. The rituals of All Hallows Eve were devised to protect us from their evil, and one small town is about to be taught a terrifying lesson that some traditions are best not forgotten. Nothing is what it seems when a young couple learns the dangers of blowing out a Jack-o-Lantern before midnight; four beautiful women cross paths with a costumed stalker; a group of pranksters discovers the horrifying truth buried in a local legend; and a cantankerous hermit is visited by a strange trick-or-treater with a few bones to pick. Costumes and candy, ghouls and goblins, monsters and mayhem... the tricks and treats of Halloween turn deadly as strange creatures of every variety-- human and otherwise --try to survive the scariest night of the year.

Ain't It Cool 10/18/08: Lauren Lee Smith UPDATED AGAIN! Ain’t It Cool And Legendary Pictures Invite You To A Special Pre-Halloween TRICK’R’TREAT Screening In Hollywood!
So there’s this film called TRICK’R’TREAT, written and directed by Mike Dougherty, that you may have heard about by now. It’s a creepy, funny, sexy little anthology film featuring four inter-related stories that all take place on Halloween night in a very strange small town. Harry recently ranted a bit about his frustration that the film won’t be playing theaters this year, due in part to the fact that when we showed it at BNAT last December, the response was very strong. Well, Legendary Pictures has been hearing how much you guys want to see the film, and even though there’s not a wide release scheduled for the movie (yet), they want to reward all of you good little ghouls and boils with a special screening exclusively for the readers of AICN. So how about joining me at the Mann’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood on Thursday, October 23rd?

Report and pics from TRICK ’R TREAT NYC premiere
Written by Samuel Zimmerman Thursday, 23 October 2008 15:34
On Monday, October 13 in New York City, FANGORIA and the Two Boots Pioneer Theater hosted a screening of one of the best unseen horror movies in recent memory. Excited fans piled in-some only able to stand in the back-to view the anthology TRICK ’R TREAT, escaping its sad confinement in the Warner Bros. vault.
....
So why hasn’t the movie been released to be gobbled up like candy on All Hallow’s Eve? Naturally, this was asked more than a few times at the post-screening Q&A, but sadly, Dougherty didn’t have a reason, or a date when it will be out.

MP3 Going TRICK ‘R TREAT With Lauren Lee Smith
2009-10-10 - 11:14
When actress Lauren Lee Smith took the part in TRICK ‘R TREAT, it seemed innocent enough - but was she wrong! Lauren tells us aboout the scary fun she had doing the film in our exclusive interview running all weekend long on THE POINT - Just hit the Listen Live Button.
....
Actress Lauren Lee Smith from CSI and Mutant X is one of the players in the anthology film. Her role was originally described to her as "sweet, innocent, almost a fairy-type princess type of character," and that's what appealed to her...at least at the start. Lauren: I think it must have, to a certain degree, yeah. Because at first it was supposed to come across as three very innocent, pretty, sweet girls who were just Halloween night looking to have some fun. And then the night takes a very deadly turn, and we are not as we appear to be.
Although Lauren had a great time.
Lauren: Probably one of the most fun experiences I've had, and with a group of girls who all got along so well and had so much fun together. And, like I said, we end up being these interesting... So it's a lot of fun, yeah.

Suite 101 Variety 10/28/13: Lauren Lee Smith Legendary’s ‘Trick ‘r Treat’ Facebook Stream a Sweet Treat for Fans
October 28, 2013 | 04:45PM PT Alex Stedman
Fans of under-the-radar horror film “Trick ‘r Treat” will get a spooky, sweet reward. Tonight, Legendary Pictures will share a screening of the pic and a Q&A with writer-director Michael Dougherty on Facebook and, for some lucky few in Los Angeles, live at Hollywood’s Egyptian Theatre. Dougherty made the 2007 horror/comedy anthology, which became one of horror’s biggest underdog success stories. Legendary Pictures sent the film - which interweaves four Halloween stories while playing on classic Halloween tropes, including the importance of checking your Halloween candy before consumption - straight to DVD, where it would go on to sell 550,000 copies and stream on iTunes and Amazon (it also had a limited run on Netflix).
