Bio from
Nerf Herders Anonymous,
A Little Bit Zombie and
The Line: A child of "The Fifties", George Buza was born January 7th, 1949 and grew up in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio. Born to Hungarian immigrants, he was raised in a close family circle with his grandparents and speaks and writes fluent Hungarian, his first language. The Arts were always a part of his life as his mother was an opera singer and musician, his father an accomplished photographer, and his grandfather an architect and artist. When Buza was a child he was fascinated with the thriller movies and his grandfather took him to see plenty of them. Despite all the artistic influences, upon completing his high school education at
St. Ignatius, a Jesuit run institute of higher learning, his decision to become an actor was met with "mixed reviews" at home. George's passion for theatre led him to
Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio where he pursued a double major of Theatre-Arts, and English to appease parental objections to his choice of a "bohemian" career. In the mid-seventies, George re-located to Toronto, a hotbed of daring new Canadian Theatre. What followed was a long string theatrical roles, including Pozzo in 'Waiting for Godot' at MTC, John Dory in 'Wild Oats' at the Stratford Festival, and The Hooded Fang in the original production of 'Jacob Two-Two' at Young People's Theatre, but foremost in George's theatrical career was the role of Bernardo in George F. Walker's original production of 'Zastrozzi'. He became a Canadian citizen in 1998. George's acting career in Canada now spans 34 years and has led to numerous recognizable roles in television and film, including 'Quest for Fire', 'Meatballs III', 'X-Men', 'Glory! Glory!', 'Amerika', 'Men With Brooms', 'Still Small Voices, and CBC's mini-series about biker gangs, 'The Last Chapter', which George performed both in English and in French. He appeared as Chief Jake McKenna multiple times in the TV series Honey, I Shrunk the Kids: The TV Show. In addition, he portrayed the older brother of Sinbad, Doubar in The Adventures of Sinbad TV series. He also makes a small appearance as a trucker in 2000′s X-Men movie. George is a former cast member of the Red Green Show. George was also in episode 11 of TVOntario’s Read All About It, titled “Voices in the Park”. He played Barry, an actor. George had a recurring role on the syndicated Mutant X. He stands 6'4" tall and is an avid motorcyclist and a weightlifter (lifts every day). Additionally he likes rock hounding and stamp collecting ("People might snicker about my stamp collecting, but I've been doing it since I was five," he says. "I'm at the point where I exhibit internationally. My grandfather is Hungarian and he used to design stamps. I find it very relaxing.") Buza is married to accountant Hope Buza and he has a stepson, Derek, who is a rock musician.
Trivia
