WINNIPEG, JANUARY 12, 2007 - The Manitoba Theatre Centre, in partnership with Manitoba Lotteries Corporation, is pleased to announce the tour of Willy Russell’s comedy EDUCATING RITA, which will travel throughout Manitoba and northwestern Ontario from February 2 to 26, 2007.

Frank Bryant is a professor of literature. Rita is a hairdresser who thinks Macbeth runs the local pub. He is a failed writer who has given up on his life. She is determined to change hers by getting an education. And the more she loves to learn, the more he learns to love. Their story delighted audiences in a film starring Michael Caine and Julie Walters, and now comes to a community near you.

The 2007 regional tour showcases the talents of MTC favourites Mairi Babb (The Tempest, Guys & Dolls) and Andrew Gillies (The Retreat from Moscow, The Philadelphia Story). The creative team features Director Steven Schipper, Set, Lighting & Costume Designer Dean Cowieson, Technicians Bob Smith and Tiffany Taylor, and Stage Manager Natalie Woodburn-Heron.

MTC embarks on its 29th consecutive tour with a performance on February 2 in Crystal City and then travels to Virden, Feb. 3; Killarney, Feb. 5; Carman, Feb. 6; Steinbach, Feb. 7; Gimli, Feb. 8; Eriksdale, Feb. 10; Thompson, Feb. 12; Snow Lake, Feb. 13; Flin Flon, Feb. 14; Dauphin, Feb. 16; Strathclair, Feb. 17; Minnedosa, Feb. 19; Neepawa, Feb. 20; Dryden, Feb. 22; Atikokan, Feb. 23; Sioux Lookout, Feb. 24.
