Lauren Lee Smith: The Star of the new "Christy" is a woman of many faces
Tony Bray

You've been acting how many years now?
Well, TV and films it's about a year and a half now.

And you were asked to carry a major role in a long production?
I've been very, very lucky. I've done theater all my life, so I'm not completely coming out of nowhere.

Anything there that you'd like to mention? Is it small theater - did you do some major productions in Canada?
It was all small theater. I studied in Los Angeles for a couple of years and did Shakespeare. That was a lot of fun.

Excerpt from Claire McBuffy at L4: Lauren Lee Smith

Lauren Lee Smith and Anne Ramsey Q&A: Part 1.

Me: You used to model. Um, how did you transition from modelling into acting?
....
Lauren: I never actually really…I mean if you call…Like when I was, from the time I was 13 I was the same height that I am now, and I was really, really, really, really skinny. And I, I just did a few little things. I wasn’t really, you know, a model. I, I don’t think anyway. Um, so there wasn’t really any, some sort of big transition for me umm…I’d been doing theatre from the time I can remember so it’s, this is always what I’ve wanted to do. My family, we travelled so much when I was growing up. We, we were every six months we were in a different country or a different city so it was always sort of hard to be stable and be able to actually pursue something, so, um, I had to wait until I was 18. We were living in the states actually. Illegally. *laughs*
Anne: It’s good that you announce that here.
Lauren: *Laughs* Well, I can do that now. I was like I can’t get a drivers licence. I can’t get a job. I’m going back to Canada. So, umm, I went back to Vancouver and um, yeah…that’s how I started.
....
Me: You mentioned that you did some theatre.
Lauren: Yeah.
Me: Was it anything major? Or was it just like little…
Lauren: Little, yeah.
Me: …Little shows about the place?
Lauren: Yeah little. I started uh, umm. We lived in Los Angeles for a while. Up in Topanga. And there’s this little theatre. Uh, called the uh, Theatrical Botanica. And it’s all Shakespeare. So I did that every Summer for about six years. Yeah.
Me: Oh cool. Excellent. And would you be interested in going back to theatre at all?
Lauren: Eventually yeah. Right now, I mean it’s so difficult to get involved in theatre. I’ve found anyway. Um, so right now this is my focus, but eventually yeah. Once I’m able to settle in a certain place. I haven’t really been able to settle in a few years, and I would love to try and get back into it. Yeah.
