Beaufort County Now 8/24/01: Karen Cliche All Souls » Running Scared
Air Date: Friday, August 24th, 2001
Experiments on five female athletes; Jolene Martin, Sierra Wilson, diver Anna Markham (Michelle Carroll), volleyballer Belinda Karch (Maria Bertrand), and runner Abigail "Gabby" Maine (Karen Cliche) have been undergoing experiments by Dr. Henry Lohman (Ken Jenkins) at the All Souls Sports Medicine Clinic. The first three are dead, and in trying to help Gabby the doctors find out that Belinda has apparently aged from twenty to over ninety as a side effect of the experiment. It is revealed that all five are Dr. Lohman's "daughters" via a genetic breeding experiment, but that the deaths are from an assistant giving the girls experimental DNA treatments without Lohman's knowledge.

Beaufort County Now Mr. Skin 2001: Karen Cliche Karen Cliche in All Souls (2001-2001)
Review Is there anything spookier than hospitals? YES! Haunted hospitals, where the ghouls engage in nightly battles of good and evil - that’d be scarier. And thus we have All Souls, a supposedly spooky series from Beverly Hills 90210 and Melrose Place creator Aaron Spelling. Mixing a little Buffy The Vampire Slayer with a dose of E/R would seem like a potentially good combination, but the audience never came in large enough numbers for the show to make it past the sixth episode. Grayson McCouch stars as Dr. Mitchell Grace, who is as much at home healing the sick as he is trying to work out who (yawn) killed his father in the hospital a few years earlier. Man, fathers get killed a TON in TV these days. Skinsters in the cast include Serena Scott Thomas, Gillian Ferrabee, and the abominably named Karen Cliché.

Tony Tellado: Fans might remember her from the UPN series that aired last year, All Souls, about a haunted hospital.
....
Tony: And you were actually in a series that didn't, unfortunately just didn't get a chance. I kind of saw it, like it was airing towards the end of the season, and it was called All Souls.
Karen: Oh, yeah.
Tony: And it just didn't get the chance it should have gotten. Interesting concept, but it just didn't get the chance it should have gotten. I think they had some episodes, they just kind of threw them out there and really, UPN didn't really have any intention of bringing it back. They just kind of threw it out for what it looked like.
Karen: Yeah, I think they just did, what, six?
Tony: Six episodes, yeah.
Karen: Yeah. We were scheduled to episode three on that one. That was a lot of fun too. I mean, I had to get in such great shape for that. I mean, they hired a personal trainer for a month for me before I did that. I mean, I played an Olympic runner.
Tony: Right.
Karen: Sad. That was a lot of fun, because, wow, I was in such great shape way back then. Oh, it's so sad! But no, that was a lot of fun, too. And then, God, Grayson McAllister [sic, Grayson McCouch], I think, played in that show. And he was a really nice guy too.
Tony: Yes.
Karen: From Another World.
Tony: Yeah, isn't that wild?
Karen: I used to watch him on Another World when I was like six or something.
....
Tony: Now, Forbes is a huge Sopranos fan. [Karen laughs] Is there like anything that you're a -- oh, he is, he's a huge. Because he lived here in Jersey, where, you know, I'm not too far from where he lived.
Karen: Right.
Tony: He lived in Hoboken when he was working in the city, you know, doing the soaps. And is there anything that you're a fan of, like he is?
Karen: I am such a fan of this new show called Scrubs.
Tony: Oh, Scrubs, yeah!
Karen: Holy cow! It's my favorite show. And actually, it's funny, Ken Jenkins, who played in All Souls with me, he actually played the doctor who was my father.
Tony: Yes!
Karen: He plays the evil doctor on Scrubs.
Tony: Yes, he does.
Karen: So, we still keep in touch, and I just tell him, I always write him like a stalker fan, like, "I love this show!" It's just so right up my alley in terms of just enough quirkiness and just enough funniness. But it just suits for me. That's my new show, that's my new favorite show. Although I don't watch very much tv with our hours.
Tony: Oh, yeah.
