Shadow of a Stranger 'Shadow of a Stranger'
By Rick Sherwood
It's the story of a successful young couple who visit the wife's all-but-abandoned ancestral seaside mansion under the guise of putting their marriage back together. He (Parker Stevenson) is a big-shot attorney whose firm is in legal and financial trouble, she (Emma Samms) is the country's top fashion model anxious to start a family. Their holiday in paradise goes well for about two minutes, and then is distrupted by the appearance of a very odd couple (Joan Chen, Michael Easton) whose boat has been wrecked in a storm. Things are never the same after that, either for their weekend or for this film. It becomes a case of betrayal, sexual intrigue and blackmail when the couple just won't go away and the fantasy weekend turns into a nightmare. Samms is quite alluring in her role and Easton provides the film with an eerie sexuality, but Chen is much too cold and calculating, and Stevenson's wide-eyed portrayal is just too wide-eyed to be believed.

From there, Easton tried his hand at an assortment of jobs. He wrote and directed a film short called Daedalus is Dead, penned a volume of poetry entitled Eighteen Straight Whiskeys and paid the rent with a variety of acting stints ranging from Stephen Cannell's syndicated series Two and the acclaimed but short-lived drama 413 Hope St. to the independent films Cold Fire and Shadow of a Stranger.
