The plot thickens...

Awesome plot ideas from the NaNoWriMo "Adopt a Plot" thread. I'd rather not mooch off someone else's idea (even if there are only 8 true plots in the world), but these made me grin:

Write the story of an ugly elf. Ostracized by his oh-so-pretty peers, he has decided to leave Stereotypical Elf Forest Realm in such of fame and glory. Unfortunately, things aren't as he hopes! Along the way he bumps into a motley cast of characters who decide to tag along, from the sophisticated troll (an active advocate for equal rights and vegetarianism) to the thief with a conscience (who is obsessed with putting things back in their right place). Unluckily for our group, there is danger afoot...

Some other characters to include:

The Prince - unlike the typical Princess in a tower, this sniveling young man has been locked away by his parents.

The mad dwarf - One quest idea would be the typical 'gather items to craft the ultimate weapon to destroy evil'. Unfortunately for the heroes, the crafted item actually summons the evil, and it’s up to them to deal with the ensuing mess.

A straight-and-narrow Christian girl has an odd dream on her 16th birthday. It's of Jesus, telling her she's not supposed to be Christian, and that she's the Muse of Magic "or something." She blows it off as a weird dream, but they get more and more persistent each night. Eventually, she figures out her dreams are real, and just as she's adjusting to being a demi-Goddess, she finds out that there's a myth saying that she fell in love with another Goddess. To put it in a simple equation: (Culture shock x 2) + the old fate v. free will debate + any other plot twists you may want = a NaNovel.

Colin McKenna is afraid. He's been having the dreams for months, now, where he rides a great black horse named Buchephelias and watches his best friend Hephastition die.

Over and over again.

As Colin tries to go about his normal life, the dreams increase, and the details emerge, until Colin must face the truth.

He is the reincarnation of Alexander the Great.

And he needs his Hephastition ("Fear not, Mother...he too, is Alexander"), before he goes mad.

Because Alexander never finished what he set out to do.

Five thousand years later, Alexander has returned.

To conquer the world...again.

Two internet child predators meet in a chat room, each thinking the other is a young child. They set up a meeting. What happens when they find out the other isn't who they say they are?

I was thinking they either fall in love or try to kill each other... Hm.

When Nietzsche said "God is dead", despite later wrapping it in metaphor and philosophy, the first time he said it it was because he accidentally stumbled upon God's funeral. Depending on how gritty or funny you'd like to make it, the cause of death can be an accident or more sinister.

Freed from any real obligations to be on one side or the other, and the black and white world, the angels and demons are free to live a more "grey" existence and do so among us.

The Chosen One is an 89 year old guy who's been waiting his whole life to be notified he needs to go out on a quest and save the world. Well, finally someone shows up at his door to explain what the delay has been. The Old Wizard who was supposed to come to him when he was a teen and give all sorts of Vague Hints about his Grand Destiny, died of a heart attack on the road, and the Evil Overlord decided not to bother taking over the world this year because of financial problems.

Well, the Chosen One is pretty pissed off that he never got to save the world like he was supposed to, so he hires some people to put the world in danger and set up a situation so he can go off on the quest nevertheless and save the world and thus fulfill his Grand Destiny.

I actually planned something like one of the ideas up there *points* before I read the thread. Huh. Guess there really are just a handful of original plots in the world.

writing, november madness
