[Jael is sitting in the hall of the barracks across from her room, knees drawn up close to her chest and arms wrapped around her knees as she stares with wide eyes at the door to her room ( Read more... )

[Jetfire's been wandering, quietly stunned over the... er. Talking vegetables. Whispers, screams, pleading. It's confusing, and it was slightly unsettling, but this is just... vegetables. The outpouring of fear and upset has Jetfire confused, but he's not insensitive enough to the reactions of upset that he isn't concerned when he comes upon Jael.]

Are you all right?

[He doesn't touch her, just kneels by her side, a hand on the ground close to her. He hopes his appearance won't upset her as much as - he assumes - all this noise and the... pumpkins? are, but he couldn't just leave her like that, so he takes a chance.]

[It takes a moment for Jael to tear her eyes away from the door to look at Jetfire. She stares at him blankly for a moment - honestly he's not the weirdest looking thing she's ever seen - before blindly patting the ground next to her for her pad of paper. It takes her a moment to stop her hands shaking long enough to write something down before holding it up for Jetfire to see. It's shaky but readable.]

they screamed and rotted

[She tears up suddenly and writes some more.]

they had the faces of my children

But he'll probably mess up anyway. :| angleofscience October 21 2011, 19:08:54 UTC
[And what do you say to that, truly? It takes but a second or so to find the correct meaning and the implication of "children" in this instance, and he vents softly.]

But they are not here, right? They haven't... ah, no matter if what have been said to us is true or not, those were... vegetables. In the likeliness of your children, yes, but they haven't died a... second time. It'll... be all right.

[Is that even what you should say? He's aware he might be saying the wrong things, and he lifts the hand he'd braced on the floor, slowly, to barely brush it down her head.

He's not very intiuitive about comfort... even less alien comfort, but he'll try.]

[Jael looks a little surprised when Jetfire touches her, but gives him a shaky smile anyway. She sniffs and reaches up to wipe at the tears on her face before slowly writing some more.]

You are right. I thought I had already come to terms with the fact I will probably never see them again, so waking up to those things screaming and rotting was particularly horrifying.

[She shudders and looks back at her door. Yeah, she's not going back in there any time soon, even if she has to wander around dressed like this for a few hours.]

...

[Well, that must have been startling, to say the least, no matter how much these are simply vegetables; waking up to them screaming must have been unsettling.]

Loss... Even if they are lying, it's hard not to... react to it. But waking up to this sort of noise in your room while you were in rechar--- ah, sleeping, I mean, must have been surprising.

[He pauses, briefly laying a few fingers around her nearest shoulder before looking over at the room, and then back to Jael, so he'll see her reply.]

Would you like me to go in there and... er. Clean up?

[Jael looks up at Jetfire for a moment before giving him a nod and burying her face in her knees. Normally she'd leave him an out or tell him she could handle it, but she just can't deal with this entire situation right now.

If Jetfire does go inside, there are four rotted pumpkins on the floor opposite the bed.]

[He gives her a last look, then gets to his feet, remembering at the last moment to duck in the doorway and go through it slightly angled; that's what you get for having wings sticking out.

The mess of pumpkin isn't a pretty sight at all, and there's no easy way to clean this up... Hopefully the woman won't be too upset, as Jetfire pulls a blanket off the bed and moves all bits of pumpkin on it, tying it together and scrubbing up what he can, before leaving the room, putting the bundle a bit down the corridor.]

Do you... ah, have the possibility of getting a new blanket? I'm afraid I used it... and I assume you'd rather get a new one if you can, instead of cleaning it? [He's kneeling by Jael again, tipping his helm towards the bundle, but not calling much attention to it otherwise.

He also feels like he needs to get the bits of rotted pumpkin that's stuck to his fingers away, but that's more because of the... feel, or the organic material than anything else.]

[Jael starts a little when Jetfire speaks again, having been listening to the whispering voices. She finally uncurls herself from her ball and leans back against the wall as she writes.]

It's alright. I can probably find something in the spare fabric to use. Thank you for helping me. I do not think I will ever be able to repay your kindness.

That's good. I was uncertain if you would be able to since I don't need blankets; it's a bit superfluous like this. [There's a faint smile as Jetfire gestures to himself and the obvious metal he consists of, then shakes his helm, briefly looking away as he reads the last part.]

Ah... Don't concern yourself with that. It'll be fine, no matter if you could repay me or not. You're still distracted by the... voices?

[Jetfire frowned, uncertain how to take the gratitude, and thus tried to simply deflect into something else. These... voices were troublesome, and he'd looked through the rotted pumpkins to see if he could find anything that were producing the sounds, but there had been - frustratedly - nothing.

It defined normal logical laws, but... Jetfire had dealt with strange things before. He would simply not speculate on the origin for now.]

[Jael nods and writes, slower this time, as her hand is starting to shake again.]

Yes. They say things that no one should know. Things I would rather not think about.

[Jetfire frowns, glancing about the hallway; he can of course hear them pumpkins too, but he thinks the voices are surely coming from elsewhere... but in the end, it doesn't matter, no matter what it is. Distraction, and distasteful such, really. Offensive.]

Perhaps going outside for a while, away from this, would give you a respite?

[Jetfire isn't really paying attention to the fact that Jael isn't dressed for such an excursion yet... Since he has no idea that her sleeping wear isn't adequate for traipsing around outside.]

[Jael looks down at herself for a second, debating going inside to at least grab a shirt, then decides her sanity is more important than her modesty. She nods and uses the wall to push herself up into a standing position before writing again.]

That might be for the best.

[Jetfire hesitates merely a moment (which, for him, happens to be a few astroseconds, which together, isn't even a full second) before he shifts a bit, crossing his arms.]

Would you like company? I... may not be adequate, but I'll do my best.

[He will not just abandon her to walk through the hallways on her own and try tofind some spot around the Keep where the noises can't be heard.]

[Jael looks surprised for a moment before smiling slightly. This time her reply comes quicker and her handwriting is surer.]

I would very much appreciate your company. I will probably just go outside and sit for a while.

[Jetfire nods, and waist for her to come up beside, and then pass him before he follows; being that much bigger, it's easier if she perceeds him through the corridors.]

I don't mind at all. Let's see if we can find some... quiet around here, yes?

[Jael nods and leads the way outside, pausing for a moment before heading towards an area of the green with no pumpkins. As she leads, she carefully writes on her papers again before holding it up for Jetfire to see.]

By the way, my name is Jael.
