[Jael is sitting in the hall of the barracks across from her room, knees drawn up close to her chest and arms wrapped around her knees as she stares with wide eyes at the door to her room

[Jetfire's been wandering, quietly stunned over the... er. Talking vegetables. Whispers, screams, pleading. It's confusing, and it was slightly unsettling, but this is just... vegetables. The outpouring of fear and upset has Jetfire confused, but he's not insensitive enough to the reactions of upset that he isn't concerned when he comes upon Jael.]
Are you all right?
[He doesn't touch her, just kneels by her side, a hand on the ground close to her. He hopes his appearance won't upset her as much as - he assumes - all this noise and the... pumpkins? are, but he couldn't just leave her like that, so he takes a chance.]
Yes, and no. [He frowns slightly, staring at the ground as he thinks.] Technically, with the right programming my frame could move about and do things independently without a spark, but like that, it wouldn't be a full... person? The spark makes us who and what we are, and extinguishing it would kill me.
[It is, really, not the easiest thing to explain.]
I apologize for the lacking explanation... It's not the easiest thing to explain, especially when you lack the proper context for a lot of the words I'd need to use to go more in-depth.
[Jetfire frowns and looks up at Jael.]
Where you are from... What sort of technology is available?
[It would make any further discussion, no matter what it was about, easier, and further, he was interested.]
/The humans had some pretty advanced technology, but I was never taught anything about it. I didn't even know the names for any of their machines. My people were never really interested in technological advancement, and I wasn't allowed to touch their technology./
[The explanation confuses him slightly and his optics narrow as he tries to figure it out.]
You managed to live side-by-side with a more technologically advanced species without learning anything, and not being threatened? [That sounded... rather impressive, really.]
... You weren't allowed? Were these devices rare enough they could keep any given individual from touching them?
[And what would the point be of keeping her from touching them?]
... If, and I'd like to reserve a pretty big if, what we have been told is true, then yes, you'd probably not have to worry about it again. I still find it highly improbable, what with available time-windows, the disparate types of universes we seem to come from... other factors.
[Jetfire shook his helm and shrugged. He would hold onto that disbelief, because actually accepting it?
He'd only, with great pains, accepted that some sort of, perhaps divine, power was to be found in his universe... This was on yet another level, and... No.]

/So this spark is what makes it so you are alive, even though you are not flesh and blood like myself?/

/I wasn't allowed because the humans were afraid I would sabotage them or learn something and pass it on to spies./
[She shrugs.]
/They were rather paranoid./

I see... And their reasoning for this? Merely that you were of... I assume, another species than them?

[Jael shrugs.]
/I'm not sure why they were so frightened, I was merely a child and of hardly any use to anyone./

[Jetfire paused and shrugged.]
Or maybe it would. Human psychology isn't something I'm even close to being even acquintained with.

/I don't know why, and I doubt I will ever know. Honestly though, I doubt I'll need to worry about it again./

/I understand. I have my reasons for believing what I do, as do you, and I respect that. I will not try to convince you to either way./
