( Yunho- 28 / Jaejoong- 6 )

“There’s blood all over your forehead.”

“Well… I guess so. You did throw a shoe at me.”

There, stood a few feet away from him, underneath the crisp apple trees, was his husband. Only he’s a bit twenty years short of age, yet despite of it all, he could tell the feeble traces of facial distinction. Standing naked in front of his own beloved wouldn’t have been a crime… if only he was old enough to appreciate it.

Sometimes this happens. He would travel way far back, noticing the lack of the usual clothes laid out for him to wear. As what he had expected, this was supposed to be their first meeting and what an uneventful meeting it was! While he was naked as the day he was born, his husband, Jaejoong, looked absolutely adorable in his school uniform, white knee-high socks and black penny loafers.

As he hid himself behind the tree, Jaejoong bursts out of nowhere, playing with his favorite toy plane, pretending to be the valiant pilot of sorts. Hearing the rustling of leaves he accidentally swished with his bare feet, Jaejoong’s initial reaction was to suspect it was one of his pestering sisters and then threw one of his shoes at the intruder of his silent sanctuary.

That would explain the bleeding spot on his head and the look of terror on the six-year old child.

He suddenly missed his very much legal version of Jaejoong.

“Who are you?” Jaejoong queried, his voice shaking from fright. Now he was starting to get scared too.

“Yunho. My name is Yunho, Jaejoong. I won’t hurt you and I wish you would stop throwing stuff at me.” He eyed the small pebble the little boy managed to clutch warily.

Pursing his lips and scrunching up his nose cutely, Jaejoong glowered. Some habits just never die. “Give my shoe back and why do you know me? Why are you hiding behind the tree?” He quickly shuffled to get his shoe when Yunho threw it back to him, holding it up like a gun.

Clearing his throat, the older man replied, “I’m hiding because I have no clothes on and I’m embarrassed. I came from a faraway place and I’m really hungry. I don’t know anyone in this place and now I’m bleeding.”

“Where are you from and why do you know my name?” Jaejoong had no plans of relenting. His mother told him to never trust strangers… much less an older and naked stranger.

With the vow to be truthful in any circumstances, Yunho answered with nothing but the truth. “I’m a Time Traveler and I came from the future. You and I are friends in the future, Jaejoong-ah.”

Unconvinced, the little boy resolutely stood on guard, “That only happens in the movies.”

“Er… that’s what we want you to believe.”

“Why?”

Scratching the back of his chestnut colored hair, Yunho explained with lengthy patience. “Because Time Travelers don’t want to mess things up for Themselves. Human beings are naturally curious creatures. Once they find out about us, they’d bother us for eternity.” Peering high above the trees, he said as an afterthought, “Think of it this way. When your sister Heebon found your pet gecko and announced it to the rest of your sisters, didn’t they all crowd over the little guy, wanting to play with it?” His analogy seemed to work since Jaejoong visibly chewed on it.

“Come out.”

“I need to get dressed first… say, can I loan your beach towel?”

Jaejoong picked it up and threw it at the strange man. Yunho wrapped it around himself, grimacing at the pink and yellow patterns on it. Perfect outfit when you meet your future husband for the first time. He walked out into the clearing and sat on the rock with much dignity as possible.

Jaejoong stood as far as he could, still clutching his shoe like a lifeline.

“You’re kidding, right?”

“Nope. Why would I do that?”

“Nobody can time travel so stop lying.” Jaejoong persisted on being stubborn.

“Santa time travels.” Yunho retaliated matter-of-factly.

“Santa is magic and you are not Santa.”

“So that means I’m not magic? Sheesh, you’re one tough customer, Jaejoongie.”

That seemed to hit a nerve. “Don’t call me that, you don’t know me enough.”

“Oh but I do. You’re Kim Jaejoong, born in January 26, 1986. Your parents are the most wonderful people in the world and you have nine annoying sisters. That was according to you of course but I think half of them are at least lovely. Heebon is my favorite.” Speaking of the favorite sister-in-law, she was bound to visit them sometime this week… in his present time, and he began to wonder if she arrived already. Jaejoong sure could use some company while he was gone.

“Just because you know things doesn’t mean you’re from the future.”

With a light shrug, Yunho replied, “You can sit there and watch me disappear.” This was one of the most poignant details Jaejoong relayed on him on their first meeting. He would never forget it because he thought it was impressive.

Jaejoong shifted from foot to foot, biting his lower lip thoughtfully. “Do you know Santa?”

“Personally, no.” he quickly changed the topic by asking Jaejoong for some bandages. Surprisingly, he did have one in his pocket. A child who was danger to himself, that’s what his parents dubbed Jaejoong. For his safety, they always made him carry a band aid around.

Unable to contain his curiosity and excitement towards meeting an actual Time Traveler, Jaejoong began to forget that Yunho could be a dangerous stranger. He sat next to him a little closer and asked the silliest questions a kid could ask. It narrowed down to the conversation regarding if Yunho was actually a pirate or not. Jaejoong was so pleased with the idea of Yunho being a pirate that he hardly noticed the way Yunho’s form starting to fade.

“It’s okay, Jaejoong-ah.” Yunho smiled at the little boy who had his eyes widening every passing second. “I hope you don’t mind but, can you bring me some of your dad’s old clothes next time? Don’t get me wrong, I adore this towel of yours, but I usually prefer to wear pants.”

“So… we’re going to see each other again?” Jaejoong chirped.

“Yes.” Yunho quickly picked up a rock and scribbled on the larger boulder he used to be sitting on.

‘Thursday, September 1993 after dinner.’

Yunho’s vision was beginning to blur, “You can’t tell anyone. It’s our secret, okay?”

Tipping his head on the side, Jaejoong asked, “Why?”

“I can’t tell. I have to go now.” He reached out to ruffle the soft, downy, raven tresses. He always loved Jaejoong’s original hair color and he wished he would stop dyeing his hair so much. “It was nice to meet you.” He tipped his head in a small bow and as Jaejoong mimicked him, he vanished.
