So, this happened on Wednesday:
http://www.kansas.com/2013/02/20/2683726/postal-service-to-close-wichita.html Basically, at some point in the near future, I will have a new job. I am hoping to continue on with the USPS, since the pay and benefits are good (and would maintain my retirement accounts without issue). There is a decent chance that this will also mean I am able to move out of Kansas, though there is no guarantee on that, or on where I would be able to move.
Here's the things that people need to know:
- While I am, to some degree, guaranteed some sort of USPS job, there is no guarantee of what sort of job it would be.
- I am looking into all options regarding transfers to other areas. It will take some time to get everything together for that, though.
- I need to tighten my finances further, so after FWA, I can not guarantee my presence at any convention or event. (This also allows me to save vacation days, which I may need in case I do get a transfer.)
- I am also looking at jobs outside the USPS, but my resume doesn't look the greatest for that sort of move right now. (I am keeping all options open, though.)
- I am not depressed or upset about this, as I was already looking into transfer options and was hoping to start that process soon anyway.
Bottom line: This is likely a good thing for me in the long-term, as it opens up additional opportunities to transfer out of Wichita. However, it does mean that I will be limited in what I'm able to do in the near-future.
