The Lion's Share Lyric Quiz - June 2009

Although my interest in music nowadays is mostly as a listener and a DJ, I was at one time a player. It wasn't rock and roll or anything like that, however. I had several years of piano lessons, spent three years in band as a percussionist specializing in mallets (I was never in marching band, however, and later wished I had been), was in a choir ( Read more... )

I'll take a stab at a few of these before I head off to work...

1. Three Dog Night - Mama Told Me Not To Come
3. Dire Straits - Walk of Life
5. Smashmouth - Walking On The Sun
8. Simon & Garfunkle - The Boxer
18. 10cc - I'm Not In Love
21. Metallica - Enter Sandman
26. Nancy Sinatra - These Boots Are Made For Walkin'
28. Steve Miller Band - Space Cowboy
30. The Witch Docter -- I don't know who did this one originally. The only version I know is by David Seville & The Chipmunks.

I should have got #20, but I finally gave up and Googled it.

All correct (including the one in your followup reply) except the title on #28. As noted by plonq, it is "Space Cowboy". Interestingly enough, "The Joker" is frequently mislabeled as "Space Cowboy".

All correct except the artist on #27, and I assume that wasn't a real guess on #18. I'll have to get a hold of that version of it.

All correct, but with a footnote on #30. It's originally by David Seville, and Sha Na Na did a cover of it, but I've never been able to confirm whether Ray Stevens did. For example, this copy on imeem, although labeled as being by Ray Stevens, is actually the original by David Seville.

I grew up hearing it on the oldies station by Sha Na Na. The copy we have says by Ray Stevens, I could swear my Dad had a record by Ray Stevens with Witch Doctor on it but I have no clue where his records got lost to.

It's always good to have others taking a peek at my LiveJournal. I don't post as often as some of my friends here and most of my posts are friends only, but I do appreciate your peeking in. And it looks like we have two LJ friends in common.

As for your answers, all correct insofar as they went. On #20 that's not the correct title but you're thinking of the right song. #30 is technically David Seville, as he produced it using a chipmunk voice shortly before he created The Chipmunks as a virtual act, but I would have taken that answer.
