The Lion's Share Lyric Quiz - August 2009

Aug 01, 2009 00:00

When my parents were growing up, they listened to a lot of music by artists like Glenn Miller, Frank Sinatra, and Patsy Cline. My siblings and I were exposed to some of it, but we didn't pay a lot of attention to it. As far as I know, none of our friends at school paid much attention to it either. We were listening to stuff like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Queen.

Nowadays, kids listen to a lot of newer stuff like Nightwish, Muse, Radiohead, as well as moderately older stuff like Metallica and Nirvana. But they also listen to a lot of the same stuff my friends and I listened to growing up, like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Queen, a LOT more than we listened to what our parents grew up on. It's amazing how much of the music that is thirty, forty or more years old is still finding new fans that are much younger than that.

As for me, the music I enjoyed most through high school and college remains like a foundation I can always fall back on, but I'm always trying to discover new artists and genres, finding out and at least somewhat keeping up with what's popular with younger listeners. I'm also discovering there's a lot of really awesome music that's older than I am. Like as Glenn Miller, Frank Sinatra, and Patsy Cline.

No matter what kind of music interests you, never stop expanding your horizons.
