Depends on what kind of material you're looking for - that's unfortunately a rather vague question.

Fire and I are fans of David Attenborough's "Life Of" series. He's got some really good stuff in "Life of Mammals", "Life of Birds" and "Life In The Undergrowth" (insects, spiders, worms, etc). You should be able to find these in both book and DVD/VHS form.

In a more general sense, it sounds like you want to look for basic Biology and Zoology books - you should be able to find lots of that sort of thing at your local library. :)

Check out http://www.amazon.com/Encyclopedia-North-American-Mammals-Essential/dp/1592231918/sr=8-6/qid=1171925627/ref=sr_1_6/102-6194877-2845742?ie=UTF8&s=books

You can search inside online to see if it has the kind of info you're looking for. I think a broad encyclopaedia like this is probably the most useful for you.

Well, for online reference, there's always Lioncrusher's Domain, which actually has a pretty wide breadth of knowledge that's not too hard to find.

Also, one of my favorite actual reference books is Animal, done by the Smithsonian folks. (I have the hardcover edition, which is very nice.)
