I look like that (see icon). Only taller, and in color. And longer hair. mwittier June 12 2005, 04:34:48 UTC
I have a bird bath heater, that I use in the winter. Actually, I have two. In Minnesota, it can be below zero for a week at a time in the winter, and birds have a difficult time finding fresh water to drink. I have several big-ass bird feeders, too; in large part because they're TV for the cat.

I am surprised that you don't think of me as digging in the dirt. I have been gardening since I was in my early teens. I have huge perennial beds, and am working on converting my back yard into a wooded lot. I have planted about thirty trees back there, and maybe a couple of hundred plants. I spend most weekend days doing landscaping stuff during the summer.

My mom is a master gardener; she has no lawn, just flower beds. It sort of runs in the family.

What do you picture me doing? I'm almost afraid to axe.

Oh, the colour of that robin's egg, and the colour of that ceiling. So lovely.

The porch is quite deep, so painting the ceiling that bright color really lit it up. In the summer, there are hops vines that grow on trellisses at each end, and they're the exact same bright green. In the winter it looks a little goony, only less so since I painted my screen door bright green as well.

Hope your Damp People trauma is coming to a close soon.

I want to linger over that eggshell forever. And those pennies and dimes in the corner -- perhaps your intention was to establish scale, but I'd like to think there was more to it than that. Old things are often best, but a shiny penny can't be beat.

Except by a robin's eggshell.

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. Those mourning doves staring at you are positively surreal, and the June bug pictures are exquisite.

You realise, of course, that I can't see Bodoni anywhere these days without immediately thinking of you....

The doves were so sweet; like big, tubby tourists, trying to figure out what the attraction was supposed to be. I think I disappointed them.

I still like Bodoni, even moreso because it's not all that popular anymore. It has that vintage kids' storybook vibe, and a sixties advertising thing I really like. I have sort of worked it to death here on LJ though. It's all that time I spend 'branding'. Makes it hard to stop.

Do you have a favorite typeface? Or any you really can't stand looking at? I have no good reason, but italicized Helvetica (especially all caps) alienates me immediately.

I am very opinionated about typefaces, as you might well imagine. (When you've dried up your brain imagining just about everything else ( ... )

Ah, the birds. For the last week, we have had a young crow, unable to fly but to big for the nest, hopping around our backyard.

The dogs weren't allowed to go outside alone, since they wanted to 'play' with the crow and the guardians of this young bird saw fit to guard every entrance to our backyard. One wrong move, and a loud outcry from the crows would begin. If you walked into our backyard, they would do their best to poop on you.

It was charming. We hope they have moved on.

There have been a lot more crows than usual this year. And I have seen so many wrens and sparrows taking crazy dirt baths: where they get into some loose, dusty soil and just flail about like they're being electrocuted. It looks like Pig Pen, from Peanuts. I'm thinking maybe there's a major flea or mite infestation in Bird World this summer.

I also have a jay around my yard that is the size of a small chicken. It's like Steroid Bluejay. Really freaky looking. I'll send it down your way so you can see it.

I will look for it when I pass by with the dogs. I will try not to look too stalkerish while I do it.
