Heartbreaking and raw. The non-linear chronology makes even the good moments hurt, since they're juxtaposed with the tense ones, and we know what's coming toward the end. I love J/S, especially ones like these that really make me feel it. Very nice.

Really interesting structure, with the nonlinear timelines. I love how you end the piece with Sirius & James meeting for the first time--it gives a nice poignancy to the previous scene. I also like the way you use short, clipped sentences & paragraphs in places to give more emotional weight to a scene.

I'm sorry I'm getting around to reading this now, so much backlog! But this was gut wrenching. I felt so much for Sirius here, especially that moment when he thought James had chosen him. Ow. Loved all the glimpses of their relationship over the years.
