Autism Screening

A lot of you asked what this was -- and basically it was just a series of questions that I said yes or no to.

These are the types of questions:
  1. Does your child ever pretend, for example, to make a cup of tea by using a toy cup and teapot, or pretend other things?
  2. Does your child ever use his or her index finger to point in order to indicate ( Read more... )

Interesting...I'm hyper-sensitive to autism and I feel like I am constantly looking for signs b/c my BF's son was diagnosed w/ autism (severe). I know our ped does autism screening so we'll discuss it at our 18 mo apptnext mo. THanks for posting this!

I am very sensitive too... My cousin's son is autistic (also severe). I really didn't think B was on the spectrum - but you just never know -- and early intervention is best IMO!

I don't think Jake is either, but I worry about down the road. You constantly hear about people whose kids were "perfectly normal/talkative/meeting milestones" etc but then suddenly things changed after an illness or vaccinations. I'm terrified that that will happen!

I'm highly sensitive to autism because my cousin is a severe behavioral handicap teacher. Most kids were autistic.

I too wonder is this routine for a WBV? I know that autism is more prevalent in boys, so maybe with A we passed this. I also asked a lot of questions at each appt. about autism, and at 6 mos. my ped said to me, "your daughter is SO social ALREADY...you do not need to worry". Right. I worried until she turned 2!

I wonder if my doc will do this in 2 weeks. I was so worried about R being autistic, and it was insanely so, my doc and I had many a conversation about it. I don't think that L is on the spectrum, but I won't rest easy until after he is 2!

Thanks for posting the test questions I was really interested since I have been super worried about autism with Jacob too.

I tried some of the stuff with Jacob the other night and he does all those things so right now I'm not too worried. Our Dr. did not ask us about all those things at his 18 month WBV so I was curious.
