NearXMello is basically the only main Death Note ship that doesn't have a shippers manifesto and that makes me sad because they are a pretty powerful and solid ship. I'll do it myself if I think I can do a sturdy representation of it. But I want other peoples input and perspectives. Does anyone know if a copy of Akane's essay on her old CursedMoons

Hi ^_^ You're lucky today ;D In the italian fandom I think to be the greatest MelloxNear fan (and also the greatest MattxMello hater XD), I love this pairing with all my heart and soul beacause they're simply perfect together <3 They complete each other, they're like two faces of the same coin (in fact together they make a better L than the original) and they have everything that the other lacks. Their love-hate relationship is simply awesome and breathtaking *.* This pairing is absolutely the only one that has real foundation in the plot (other ones like MattxMello, GevannixNear, ect... doesn't make sense at all, it's only fanservice since there are no clues that prove their existence), everything in canon has suggestive subtext but I think that Akane Kurosaki has already told everything about this topic in her essays (Mello&Near's relationship and Mello&Near secret meetings) and lucky for you, I saved a copy of them in my pc :D Just give me a bit of time to find them and I'll send you the pdf files ;3

Well now darling many thanks. I remember reading her essay ages ago and I can't remember the contents at all for some reason.

Something I find interesting about there relationship is Mello has a strong aggression and hatred towards Near but it's completely irrational as Near actually seems to like him then anyone else in the story. It always made my heart melt then in the epilogue chapter when they show Near he's playing with his toys but he's also eating a bar of chocolate.

In Death Note when basically every character is lying to each other about how they feel, Near, the most robotic character, seems to be the only person in the main cast harboring an honest fondness for another human being.
It's quite ironic.
(Well besides Misa but poor Misa's fucked over by the one she loves the most.)

I also COMPLETELY disagree with you that theirs is the only canonical relationship. That's just ridiculous. Any romantic relationship between Mello and Near is JUST as tenuous as that between Gevanni and Near or Mello and Matt. You may not prefer it, but it's just stupid to make shit up and pretend your OTP is actually canon. That goes for anyone - not just you. I prefer Matt/Mello, but I don't pretend it's actually canon.

Meh....it's just the whole hating on pairings really turned me off to the fandom a few years ago. Why do you feel the need to bash a pairing you dislike? Seriously? Why not just ignore it.

Ah, I have become a fan far too late to experience the wonder that was Akane's site, cursedmoons, though I have seen some attributes. I have my own ideas, thoughts, and opinions on Mello and Near's relationship, but it would be absolutely wonderful to hear insights from Akane herself. What sells them to me is that they are two sides of the same coin.
They're both seem to be looking for justification from the other (although Mello is much louder about it, and denies he's looking for justification)
In canon I don't see much of Mello's feelings towards Near besides that of a rival - a rival on the same side, but still a rival. Near....Near perhaps has feelings hinted at, but not necessarily love.

Oh, no, no, no I'm not saying Near actually loves Mello I said "fondess" like appreciation. There's no reason to get so hostile it's just shipping for chirst's sakes. I basically ship everyone with everyone.

And it is a valid point I haven't deluded myself into believing Near and Mello are secretly in love. Ohba states in 13 that, "Near actually likes Mello." Obviously this is completely platonic, but it builds my respect for Near that he is able to like someone who is completely unpleasant to him. I'm talking about main characters; The two main Kiras and the three detectives. It's the only time one of them purely liked someone with literally nothing to gain from it.

I understand ladyxelloss was quite rude to other pairings, I just ignored it because hell it's a MelloxNear forum I'm not going to fight with people, but I feel insulted as you did'nt understand what I was getting at at all and almost seemed to imply I'm some deluded nutter who watched Death Note and thinks all the characters are actually gay.

Hello! I'm so happy I found this post because I really thought that I'm the only MXN shipper cus yeah many peeps think that it doesn't make sense right? And mostly there are more melloxmatt but it is not i dislike them it is just that no matter what I do I just can't seem to understand it deeper and ultimate fangirl over them except for melloxnear. Yes, they are bestfriends, which initially makes their bond deep from the start. Yes, matt was there when mello was undergoing despair of being at the bottom. yes, he did withstand Mello's idiotic whims and impulsive acts. But that what makes it common. I also find them cute, but i just really ship near and mello. My insight of near and mello is that near is an emotionless mechanical robot like human who has fetish in toys, he may always appear like that. He maybe called alien by others and that he is not human. but we can't change the fact that he IS human. He was born with feelings and it is not something he can't erase. He is bottling up all the emotions and started being cold because

But anyway, that is a more logical explanation. But for me, I think that they're forbidden like love appalled me the most. They were created as complete opposites. But isn't that what God had made meant to be-s for? God made our partners to complete us, because we are a gift to each other. And also I know that Near is the only one that can accept Mello fully without a complain...and accept his dark past. I also feel like Mello's character is the only one that can fit Near's because this personality can teach him how to be more human. I also like the thought that Mello was always number one....in Near's heart. That he was never number two when it comes to number one. ( fangirl thoughts ) They're compatible for me....i know this is pretty long and i really can't explain what my opinions that much...even though it is quite a tragic tale of love story, but i believe that they should be together in the next lifetime. And also, love is plain illogical. If you fall wondering what attracted you the most, you will probably not get an answer.
