When Uruha had told him how much he wanted to see what was at the end of the river, he was surprised to see his reaction. Unlike the others, Aoi did not try to stop him from doing so. Instead, he offered Uruha some company, saying that he didn’t want him to feel sad, alone in the journey. And for the first time, Uruha was afraid of getting himself near a river or something similar.
One night on a night-time stroll during one of their long tours, he had found Aoi sitting alone on the cold cement, soaking wet and smoking an unlit cigarette. Uruha was sure that there was something wrong. But when he asked Aoi what it was, all Aoi’s answer was, “I did not like the way he was staring back at me.” Uruha was confused with his answer but what puzzled him most was when Aoi suddenly pulled him close and kissed him on the lips.
One plus one is equal to two. But in their case, it was the opposite. It was two, combined together to become one. However, for that to be successful, especially for two people who were at opposite ends, there were a lot of things to fix. In other words, there was chaos.
Uruha had long forgotten the river and Aoi had long given up chasing the ghost in the lake. They were living in bliss and the only thing that was missing was forever.
When Uruha had told Aoi about his nightmare, the elder hushed him with a chaste kiss, saying the three sacred words. Usually, that was enough to make him feel safe but that time, for some strange reason, it didn’t work. After some more cuddling, he fell asleep again, dreamless but still uncomfortable. He woke up the next day to find out why.
Aoi had broken up his promise, he had gone alone. But as much as Uruha wanted to see him on the other side, he was actually afraid to go. Aoi had made him realize that. It wasn’t that Uruha wasn’t excited to meet him again. It was just, he did not want to, not yet. He would wait for the right time, after all, Aoi had always been patient even if he was not the most even-tempered person he had known.
It was Uruha's turn to drown in the lake.
