The gradation of heavily mixed hues, its intricacy, an aspect which couldn’t be expressed by identifying each shade that has formed the final artistic effect, the thin layer of light, seeping through the mass of twirls and curls of cinereal heaven’s wool, the greying cerulean atmosphere, adorned with flickers of tiny living bulbs of sheltered harmless fire, the vast carpet of emerald leaves on thick coppices at the far end of the horizon, the ticking of a dial; a life wilts away but life remains unbroken on a slice of warm cement, still, tranquil, solicitous.

An ebony article of fabric flows and rests with silk-like grace from around the nape of the neck, down to the shoulders, arms and fingers, and from the neck down to the chest and the slim stomach which is tied in a strip of yellow cloth to keep the fabric in place, and from the stomach down to the folded legs and down to the ankles of the porcelain-like feet clad in historic wooden slippers dyed in paint as dark as the night-sky during winter. The edges of the fabric sway elegantly in the rhymes recited by the countryside breeze with his raven hair, though styled with rebellious modernity, concurring along with the picturesque poetry.

A bag of dried peach candies lays idle, untouched and patient on his lap, a shard of a promise he has offered to the one god holding the meaning of such festivity through the most inconvenience of all times; heat is radiating sweat on his skin beneath his own fashion but there is no utterance of grievance that is able to halt him. A cardboard box together with a small square metal lighter is clasped in his left hand, settled on the gritty surface, a stick of lit cigar pressed in between his lips, and a piece of cream paper in his right hand poised above his lap and under his scrutinizing eyes, its texture, smooth against his fingers and its scent of peach lingering in his nostrils.

Unattractive handwriting but nevertheless readable is printed on the solitary page ornamented with a collection of purple, yellow, pink, and blue stars that seem to form an undiscovered constellation blinking before his eyes; the scattered pattern utterly reminds him of the star-formation permanently dwelling in his beloved’s orbs. His eyebrows furrow in grave seriousness as he carefully read each line, his heart pounding heavily against his ribcage, he thinks maybe it is from dread but then he doesn’t fail to notice that he has referred to him as his beloved.

‘Dear Kaori, remember that time when I told you that Tora asked me out? It was a bet, I knew it was but I said yes because I wanted him to stop bullying me. It was a peace offering, and I hated him and myself for it but…’

Summer warmth makes you think of a lot of things, all good, all bad, necessary, unnecessary, surprising, and even some things that are so foolish that you want to choke and gag to death. Tora waits for that special portion wherein he is to throw up everything that he has eaten, breakfast, lunch, dinner, everything, up to his own intestines but that time doesn’t come and perhaps festivities have a lot to do with it that he turns incredibly sappy to the point that he is really crazy. Who falls in love with the prey that he becomes the prey himself?

The box of cigarettes is left lying on the ground as he bends down on the concrete floor, the lighter tightly seized in his fingers, while his other hand folds the paper into three. Before he completely hides the penmanship with the blank side of the letter however, he catches a glimpse of the words from the phrase, ‘I’m afraid that the moon has overshadowed the sun in an eclipse so I have to r…’ The sentence burns into Tora’s mind, making his blood boil so he crumples the paper instead of folding it into neat squares, his nails scarring his palm from the force of his temperance. He tosses it on the rough flooring, takes the lit stick from his lips and harshly pushes the stab into the rumpled paper until it is creating holes with white smoke. To satisfy himself more, he clicks the metal lighter open until the fire reaches as far as his forehead then smiling, he lights up both the trash that are littering the ground. Real stars are also multi-coloured and though he doubts that they have purple or neon green, he still likes them better than drawings.

“Tora, what are you doing?” The sound of his deep voice startles Tora and he stiffens as hard as a statue before he is able to turn around to look up. He freezes again once he does and forgets about the billions of stars in the whole galaxy because one of them has definitely fallen on earth, standing right before him now. And that constellation, the one that is sparkling on his unsure eyes, Tora has finally decided a name to it.

“Shou, if you kiss me under the fireworks I’ll tell you something you’d like to hear,” he says as he crushes the little flame under his right foot, stands up and holds out the bag of peach candies to him.

Endnotes: let me join the fab, I missed valentine’s day and since I’m still a bit early for deadline, I decided to write a short one cus I am inspired by my new header. *points to header* weee~~~ I’m happy to be a part of the comm.
