I am a teacher myself. The mathematics teacher. [If you don't already know me from the rumours.]
In my case... I always wanted to teach, to educate the community and foster learning and give back somehow... and I have my research projects on the side... [Because even in an AU, he's still a scientist.]
There are many career paths out there. If you can find something you enjoy doing, and turn it into a career, it hardly even feels like a career at all.
