My husband and I can't afford to buy all organic, so I've been trying to figure out the best way to eat healthier without going too far out on a limb. I can give you some advice and tricks I've learned, and if you're poor, I'm REALLY poor. ;)

I don't have a bread maker, and I don't think I have a problem mixing it myself, I just don't let it rise long enough or something. Sigh. Plus working with whole wheat flour makes things different I guess.
Yikes on your veggies! I hope they pull through for ya. I had to cover mine in netting to keep the birds and bunnies away.

I've been trying to make the switch for a while now too.
Another thing to consider: Try to buy stuff NOT made in China - that stuff'll kill you.
