My Struggles... (Sarcasm FYI)

My husband and I can't afford to buy all organic, so I've been trying to figure out the best way to eat healthier without going too far out on a limb.  I still buy "The Dirty Dozen" organic, and I insisted on organic milk and eggs.  For everything else I'm trying to get the "all natural" variety, as in natural peanut butter, bread, sour cream and ( Read more... )

Are you just now making the switch??!! I don't think it is something you can switch in an afternoon, even if you tried. It's a process and if eliminating processed and chemicals is your first start, at least you have started. ;)
I can give you some advice and tricks I've learned, and if you're poor, I'm REALLY poor. ;)
CSA's, buy into them, they save money!! Buy an animal, like 1/2 a pig, or cow...if you think you can stand eating that much of ___ for almost a full year...lol.
And when we get real poor I make my own bread.
And, of course, the growing of your own veggies, that's my personal favorite as it's more than just food.

LOL, no, I started trying to make the switch about the time I started this journal... February maybe? But I'm still new at it for sure.

I would love to buy into a CSA but there aren't any in my area. I've done all the searches :( I am still trying to get my homemade bread to turn out, but I am successfully growing a ton of veggies! Thanks for the support :D

I'd say February is pretty new ;)
That's to bad about the CSA ); They are such a blessing.
I'm still trying to get my homemade bread to turn out as well. The bread maker makes it to hard for me, so I've been mixing in there and letting rise outside...but still...there are a few things that just aren't right I have to work out.
Yay on the veggies! I'm hoping mine pull through after the THIRD 2 year old incident. I swear this child is hell bent on destroying my veggies.

Yeah, I hope that they start a CSA around here at some point.

I don't have a bread maker, and I don't think I have a problem mixing it myself, I just don't let it rise long enough or something. Sigh. Plus working with whole wheat flour makes things different I guess.

Yikes on your veggies! I hope they pull through for ya. I had to cover mine in netting to keep the birds and bunnies away.

I agree with the above commenter, it's definitely not something you can do in an afternoon :)

I've been trying to make the switch for a while now too.

Another thing to consider: Try to buy stuff NOT made in China - that stuff'll kill you.

I'm trying to take it slow but I get really excited/then frustrated about things. Oh I definitely agree with the Made in China thing. I try to buy the most local things I can.
