Sorry for the long-windedness, I'll cut to the chase now. How do I get this crazy lady kitty, that will barely tolerate being held, into the carrier to get to the vet? Once we get to the vet, what if she won't come out, or comes out swinging? Also, the vet has recommended benadryl instead of a prescribed sedative for the actual travel. Has anyone done this before? How big was your cat, how much did you use, and how did it work? Would it be totally out of line to try to dose the crazy one before her trip to the doctor?
These all sound like questions that would be answered best by the vet you are taking her to see. If there's blood work to be done, I suppose there is a possibility that the Benedryl would be a problem.
But I have an idea about the carrier- cats like boxes. Leaving the carriers around the house, open, so the cats can inspect them and play in them and get used to them may make it easier for you and her when the time comes for the carrier to be used as a carrier. Maybe hide some kitty treats in there to entice her?
I'll second this. Start leaving the carrier out as much as a few weeks before you leave. My cat actually gets stuck in his crate when he's being annoying (nipping, etc.-- he's also ex-feral) but will turn right around and go in for a nap. As long as they don't associate them purely with travel and vet-time. :) Good luck!

We ended up getting sedatives so now we just have to get them to take them before they fly out on Thursday!
