He so clearly does love her, but it's impossible to tell if love or the need to possess her entirely is going to win (or whether - as is probably the case - the need to possess her is what Erik understands love to be).

I'm...not holding out a great deal of hope for a happily-ever-after ending (*g*), but I'm so glad you updated!
