So, I just finished a set of proofs in lightroom, & I want to delete them from my card so that I can use it for something tomorrow. However, I want to save the raw files so that I can crop them in different ratios later if that's what the client orders... is there an easy way to do that without losing the editing I've done in lightroom? Lightroom doesn't ever overwrite the files. It has all of your raw files saved, and then it remembers all of the changes you've made. To change a crop, just use the cropping tool, and you'll see that the whole image is still there. To go back to the unedited file, just go back to the beginning of that file's history on the left hand side. It doesn't ever go away, even if it gets very long or the program is closed.

I have found those things to be true, but only if I have the card in still.
If I remove the card, it says it can't access the file or soemthing.
So, if I delete the files from my card, I'll lose the files, right?

Well, you have to copy the file from your card onto your computer. I then import the files from that folder. Once they're imported, though, it's just as Emily said. Oh, and you can also export them as their original (raw) file. We do that for clients that we're purging onto disk.

Ah, ok. My first step is always to import the files before I start any work on them, so I'm not familiar with how it works if you're working from the card. Sorry!
