I rose early this morning at about 04:30 AM for suhoor (the meal before fasting begins).  Had a tuna sandwich and a couple cookies and several glasses of water.  That's the hard thing, you see.  We've had triple-digit temps for the better part of 2.5 months now.  Not having a bottle of water at work which I can sip on from time to time will be an ( Read more... )

How does that work, the water and the triple digits?

THe rule for fasting in Judaism is that if it endangers your life, you break the fast. So on a day with triple digit heat and a high risk of dehydration and heat prostration, you still wouldn't eat but you would drink water.

I don't have an answer for you right off, but will find out and get back to you. to be honest, i've not had a problem so far today. temps are high 90's. though i'm indoors it's still hot as the store temps are controlled remotely from a location in another state. also, when i do woodoo, it involves rinsing the mouth, face, hands, and feet and seems to have been refreshment enough for me, today. i also hydrate quite liberally over night.

i will get back to you with a more difinitive answer. i do know that none of the acts of worship we perform for god in islam requires us to endanger health.
