Sensory Overload...

Can you fall faster than gravity?
I know for example that if you literally throw yourself forward and down you can accelerate your movement. That is not strictly falling as it is more of a controlled fall.
I also know that if you take the body as a closed environment for the purposes of forces, if you were to effectively pull your body down with your legs you would infact pull your feet nearer to your torso, so then when you apply that to the environment including gravity, it stands to reason that the only reason your body accelerates towards your feet would be due to gravity, therefore the maximum acceleration would by 1g.
So the question remains, can you fall faster than gravity would accelerate you...I think not.
But in due course this led me to thinking about fainting, during which a person seems to fall in slow motion - 1g of acceleration isn't terribly fast.
This in turn led me to thinking about the reasons for fainting. Some of which (not always) would be due to a sudden shock to the stimuli of the brain. Seeing something your unprepared for, for example.
This in turn lead me to thinking about the NumbSkulls from the Dandy or the Beano or whatever comic they were in.
Do you think (and this is the real question in this post...), right, that in the Numbskulls there as some blokes whose job it is to sit in a room watching all the incoming sensory stimuli and when something too out of it passes by that they hit a big red button that causes immediate temporary shutdown... And if there is do you think the other Numbskulls would find these guys a bit odd. Or have mad Area 51 type rumours about them and the room they work in and stuff.
